Universal Studios Florida will close Kongfrontation September 8. It was one of the original attractions to open with the park.

I love Kong and I wish they would replace the horrid Earthquake attraction instead (easily the worst between the two parks), but it will be nice to see a new themed coaster at this side of the parks in particular. My guess is they'll keep going for a Mummy attraction although the could be the famed Apollo 13 project back to life. Guess we'll just have to wait and see.
Well I was hoping to ride this one last time when I go this October but oh well. At least I got to ride it twice when I went to Universal this past May. I wonder how soon before they will begin construction on the new ride?

One has to think, why a Mummy Theme in the NY area? I'm all for a new attraction, don't get me wrong, but what does that area have to do with ancient Egypt? Koaster King I fully agree with you that Earthquake should be gone as well. Even the new pre-show doesn't have the enthusiasm it should.

How about a ride themed to that blockbuster Mystery Men!! ;-)

How long is the wait time from this point?

Noooooo not Kong, that was such an awesome ride. Earthquake wasn't that bad, but Kong is better. Why do they have to get rid of it?

Guess my "last spin" turns out to be a little early....I will get one more spin this week, I guess I just have a soft spot for that Big Ape...;).

Mummy is certainly a possibility, but I'm still remembering the discussion where Scorpion King was mentioned....Mystery Men would be great!....Mummy, I kind of think has been "sorta covered" by BGT.....Apollo13 would be a winner too...

How `bout The Last Starfighter or better yet (for Disney maybe) TRON: The Ride.

Just 15 miles from 2 CCI's.
Approx. 200 coasters ridden -- #1 Shivering Timbers
Most kids today wouldn't know what Tron is. I too enjoyed Kong and will be sorry to see it go but I am sure they will come up with something clever.

Have you ever seen the movie "Earthquake"? Why do we have to remove every ride that isn't scary enough? Remember, not all of the visitors to the park are young.

Kong (albeit a great ride) is better suited for removal, as the Kong show building is much larger than the Earthquake ride.

Earthquake scared the heck out of me when I was 6, so did Jaws, I think a Mummy theme inside of a museum in New York would work.

Sigh....at least I was lucky enough to have experienced it with both CBaby and Da 'Midget.

Kong is dead. Long live Kong.

The CPlaya 100--6 days, 9 parks, 47 coasters, 2037 miles and a winner.....LoCoSuMo.

Construction of the new attraction is to start right after Kong closes. The new attraction is supposed to be a quantum leap forward of an attraction much like Spiderman was(at least that's what the CEO of Universal said). Opens in 2004
Kong was my favorite ride at Universal (MIB wasn't open yet, and yes I liked it even over Woody). Sorry to see it go. Hopefully something interesting will replace it.

TOGO!

As corny as this ride is I can't help but love it. Too bad it's closing. I'm gonna miss that big dumb ape.

Teenage Ninja: That idea about the New York museum is really creative. I'm sure they'll find some way to tie it in.

Does this thing go faaaaaast!

Hmmm...wondering how they are paying for an attraction that is a "quantum leap" when the parent company has posted billions in losses.

Of course the CEO did say that they would sell off assets to raise about 10 billion but that still leaves them several billion in the hole. This should be interesting.

And I still wonder if one of those assets would be the theme parks themselves. I can see it now...Disney's Islands of Adventure. Not what I'd want to happen, but I am sure Disney would love to get rid of the competition!

Well, my best guess is that it's going to be a X-Men Ride. It's only too obvious; the new movie is opening up, it's ste in the New York area of the park, and it's one of Universals favorite franchises. Just a guess, but a hopefully good one.

I heard that there is a Shrek riding going up at Universal (even though it was Dreamworks) as well as a Jimmy Neutron ride. A Jimmy Neutron themed/family coaster would be great and fit in nicely the the Kongfrontation site? Hmmm.

That whole park needs an overhaul. Forget about Earthquake, that ET ride is ridiculous. So is Twister. Why haven't they gotten a coaster yet - what are they waiting for?

I agree, an X-Men ride seems a natural.

kong is a sweet ride. the line is acutally amazing. i personally think earthquake is also awsome. but if there taking stuff down cause they need the space then it should go before kong.
it's time for kong to go. Universal are gonna need a new super-headliner if they're to keep up pace with the rumblings happening down the road at epcot centre. Mission:Space is clearly going to be a crowd puller (so long as it actually works!) and could turn around the ailing fortunes of epcot's dwindling attendance figures, thus easting into one of universal's "vacation days". Universal are gonna have to respond with something pretty big and exciting if they want to compete, and the kong lot is a pretty big site. let's face it the rumoured sherk and jimmy neutron shows just aren't gonna be *big* enough either.

i'm pretty sure we're gonna see something really special.

I was told that the new mummy attraction would tie in with a musiem entrance as well. Once on the coaster, you would be blasted into the egypt theme.

Wahoo Skipper-Some people from Disney are trying to get the movie Tron 2 greenlit. Kids would know what Tron is after a new movie came out. A Tron coaster would be cool, even though it would never happen at USF.

Phil Budnick-The Shrek attraction is going to be a 4-D movie in the Hitchcock building. The Jimmy Neutron attraction will replace the Hanna Barbara sim. The attraction going into the Kong building WILL be themed to Mummy. It has not yet been announced as such. ...And what is this about E.T sucking? I LOVE that ride!

Tyler Smetts-Wouldn't they give an X-Men attraction to IOA due to Marvel haveing it's own island?

Okay I'll shut up now, BUT it IS going to be themed to Mummy.
