According to the event calendar on www.knotts.com, Winter Coaster Solace is now on March 10th and not March 3rd as it was previously announced.

If this is true, I might be able to go now. :)

^ "If this is true"?

I'd be the LAST person to just "take their word for it" at this point...LOL! Does anyone remember how well coordinated the event was last year - the registration deadline changed on an hourly basis...

I'd VERIFY this, with someone who is "in charge", BEFORE I'd go booking flights and taking time off work....just giving "fair warning" (Van Halen instead of RHCP)... ;)

Exactly. I'm waiting for confirmation of confirmation of this "change" from at least seven people before I have any confidence in Roth returning,I mean the new date. ;)

The date is still showing March 10th.

I usually go to a 2nd park in the area the day before/after this event. Last year we went to Universal Studios. Since I will be going to Disneyland and California Adventure later this year (June), I was thinking of going to Magic Mountain on Saturday March 11th.

It appears that Magic Mountain is having what it calls “Physics Day” on March 11.“Six Flags Magic Mountain will host the 26th annual Physics Day on March 11, when thousands of students engage in physics problems and competitions all while riding and observing world class roller coasters at the Xtreme Park”

Does anyone know what type of impact the “Physics Day” has on the Mountain? (Does it make it overly crowed? Do they shut down rides, etc. for these competitions?)

It was Physics day last year after Solace, too (either that or maybe it was Solace '05). Either way, it's going to be pretty busy simply because it's the weekend before/after almost every college in the country has off for Spring Break.

As for the Physics events - I don't recall anything being closed for the event. I do remember quite a number of things that were closed just because, though :)

Can someone give a more detailed explanation of what the Solace is please? Is it ERT all day? Only for a couple hours? I'm confused. I'm planning a trip out with a friend in March, but I don't know whether to avoid this weekend or try to go for it.

Typically it's morning ERT from 7a-10a and evening ERT from 10p-midnight. The coasters featured in each session has varied from year to year but traditionally Ghostrider has been the star of the nighttime session.

They continue to INSIST on Boomerang ERT....if they have extra ops, use them on rides people want to ride...LOL!

Also, the park still doesn't seem to understand that even COASTER people love Knott's mine and log flume....esp. the log flume... :)

Wait...the mine train isn't a coaster? It has a chain lift! ;)

It's 100% powered from start to finish. But for those who count powered coasters it's a credit.
Don't forget the most important part of Solace..

Buffet lunch with Mrs. Knott's famous chicken! (and all-you-can-drink boisenberry punch.... mmmm...)

It's almost worth the trip from the east coast just for the punch!

In addition to the Saturday festivities, they usually run a special with the hotel that includes ERT friday night (much smaller group of people) along with dinner friday night and special guest speaker within the industry. Also included are 2 nights accomodation (friday and saturday night), and breakfast sunday morning (although this past year they were just vouchers for breakfast in the restaurant in the hotel, and we used ours saturday morning... good food, too!). They also seem to magically leave a special gift in your hotel room while you're at the friday night festivities (AFAIK it's not a hotel thing.. only if you're part of the event to they leave that special gift).
