Knotts Solace news!

Everything was GREAT!, but one thing made it even better. Right before Sander Kernace of Intamin was about to leave, he said something that was GREAT. Someone asked him if anything would happen, and he said "On Jan 1st 2004, or a little bit before, wait till I'll revail my masterpiuece, that'll blow coasters away", and also said something like "this is the park that deserves it", or something of that sort. Also want to give Stan Chickets the probs he deserves, cause he is BRILLIANT!

It's Sandor Kernacs.

What problems does Checketts deserve?

And by the way, Kernacs has said pretty much the same thing about every park he's built a ride at. Why wouldn't he? It keeps him in business.

Jack Falfas also mentioned this at the reception on Friday night, saying: "If you think Xcellerator is going to be [fun] come back in January of 2004" or words to that effect.

hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm..................

Lets just wait and see.

That's quite a tease coming from both Kernacs and Falfas, but where else can they build? They had to remove a ride to put one in, and a short one at that. I guess I'll just have to go to the Solace next year to find out.

I had a discussion with a gentleman in their engineering and maintenance dept. He said that they were "probably" going to move all of the parks support facilities across into one of the overflow parking lots. They own a fair amount of property. It's just that a lot of it is bisected by streets. They built a tunnel under Beach Blvd to connect Soak City (and it's parking lot) with "The Farm." They same could be done with the surrounding lots, once the five billion studies and permits required by Buena Park are filed.

Dutchman - that tunnel has been there for a long time and was not built specifically for the water park. And anyone claiming Knotts has no room needs only to look at Blackpool. True, I don't want ride on top of ride at the Farm either, but they DO have room!

Adam F - we were all shocked when Falfas let out that tidbit. I wasn't at the speakers forum so I can't comment on what Sandor said, but "what could they be getting?" was certainly the talk of the day!
uhh...Sandor never mentioned anything before he left. I was talking to him in the lobby until he left and that never came up...

That's true, Mamoosh. Where Soak City is now is the former location of what was called the Lagoon. This was a free gate area. Bud Hurlbut operated a train , boat ride and an antique carousel there. This is also where Knotts reproduction of Independence Hall still is. When Hurlbut Amusement sold their ride operation in the park to the Knotts, he removed the rides from the Lagoon. The train went to Bud's new park in Riverside. The carousel eventually was auctioned off in pieces at a Norton auction. The sternwheeler that is now in the park may have been the one from the Lagoon, but I'm not positive.

Nope! That was a brand new one built especially for Knott's when Camp Snoopy opened. The one from the lagoon was old and it was not moved to KBF, though perhaps it may have gone somewhere else. Also if I remember correctly, I think the new one was a bit bigger than the old one as well.

Then I'd say it's over at Hurlbut's shop over on Western Ave. Or it might have been eventually cut up.
