Knott's plans additional restraint for Plunge, Intamin says it isn't needed

Posted | Contributed by CoasterFanMatt

Following the death of an extremely obese woman who was tossed from Perilous Plunge, Knott's Berry Farm says it will modify the restraints of the giant flume. Intamin maintains that the existing restraint is perfectly safe provided its guidelines are followed.

If I own Intamin, there is NO WAY you could get me to say that the additional restraint is necessary. Talk about boneheaded, imagine trying to defend the company in a lawsuit after an admission like that. You'd need Johnny Cochran to pull your butt out of the fire....;)

...but in practical terms of operating rides, being safer when defining who CANNOT ride, and being firm when saying no, is gonna be a lot easier than trying to handle the lawsuits when someone is hurt/killed....

No offense, but the ones that are saying how the Millennium Force "yellow" train is on Knott's site are complete idiots. Take a close look at the trains above in pictures within that link provided by Raven-Phile in the post above me. The Xcelerator trains, proposed as "candy apple red" and "purple" have yellow as the body color, with "candy apple red" and "purple" accents on one or the other train. And since when did Millennium Force's train have light blue seats, a 1950's hot-rod themed lead car? NEVER.
UUUGH!!!! Look at that dang pics. I said it's an MF car, not from MF, but the same vehicle. These are different cars. Good God!

By the way... The odd looking seat, thats the head rest for the vehicle. All of them will have them when it opens. Due to the launch, support was need for the rider heads. MF has a head rest as well, but it's a much different design as it is a traditional coaster. Much like Montezuma's revenge, this ride has headrests to prevent neck injuries.

One thing that doesnt make sense is that, and correct me if i'm wrong, a restraint is in place for the sole purpous of RESTRAINING the guest. So if she wasnt secured, doesnt that mean that the restraint wasn't closed, and she didn't "fit"? I thought i heared that the woman's seatbelt wasn't locked, and the operators let her go anyway. If that wasnt the case, and the restraint didn't hold her in, even though it was closed, then most definately the restraint system must be modified. But a 4 point safety harness seems a bit overkill to me. I personally have not seen the ride, but it seems to me that there is an easier and more capacity friendly way to go about it. The OTSR and FOF lap bars seem like good ideas to me.
