Knott's opens Xcelerator with modified restraints

Knott's Berry Farm has reopened its Xcelerator coasters after the state asked that the park modify its restraints following accidents at other parks with similar restraints. The seat sides were made larger, and a visual indicator shows minimum lap bar position.

And the way that they are stapling at SFNE right now, be sure you have building your family before riding Superman, because the boys are in definite danger. At least the ride ops seem to be having some fun with it.
I think that the indicator is like the ones on Revenge of the Mummy. There is a Red/Green area on the bottom of the lap bars...if you're in the Red you can't ride...green you are okay.

I am not sure why they did not reach a conclusion for the hydro accident. Reading the accident report, it was pretty clear to me. The park/ride ops were instructed to keep larger guests only out of the last two rows (5&6). The passenger who fell out was in row 4, so they would have just pushed her lap bar to touch her as opposed to any standard of "on the thighs" or lower than a certain point. When the ride was tested, the negative g's for that row were stronger than design specs. The fix should have been uniform and enforceable size limitations and lap bar positions for all rows.
Do you mean Perilous Plunge, RavenTTD? The investigation for Hydro is ongoing and size (well, too large) certainly isn't an issue.
Yeah, I meant Perilous Plunge.
I don't think any of this was neccesary if guests who decided to ride coasters would just use their brains and think for themselves. Once again, the consequences of a couple idiots is to the expense of parks and us.

Superman remains closed....no surprise, but has it been open the past couple months?

SFMM's Superman was already closed for "a lengthy overhaul." Or, if you believe the sign in front of the ride, due to "inclimate weather." Apparently in Valenica "inclimate weather" means sunny skies and 80 degrees. My guess: it costs a fortune to run the ride, this ruling by CALOSHA merely enables them to blame the closure on the restaint issue and keep it closed until they can claim they found a reasonable solution.
If i were them I would take it down. probably won't happen, but one could hope :)
There are some pictures of the modifications over at Westcoaster. http://www.westcoaster.net/update.php?id=0629043 I can understand adding the "go, no go" indicator, but the added side bar seems a bit extreme. As many others have said the new deeper seats coupled with the curved T-bar seems adequate for me, but then again I'm not an expert. What I am looking forward to is the newest installation of an Intamin coasters with T-bars. I wonder if Intamin will alter their own designs or just leave them the same. Doesn't Intamin think none of these modifications are necessary?*** This post was edited by lilspike333 6/30/2004 8:47:16 PM ***

Intamin still insists that their restraints are not faulty in any way, shape, or form and that all incidents have been due to rider or operator error.

That's on the record at least. Who knows what they're saying off the record.
