Knott's chapel to be moved outside of the park

Posted | Contributed by Jeff

A historic chapel rescued from demolition by Walter Knott in 1955 will be moved out of the Buena Park theme park that bears his name to make way for a $3-million ride. A final service at the Church of Reflections will be held Oct. 5 before the pews, stained-glass windows and steeple are torn out, moved and reassembled across Beach Boulevard on a site just northeast of Knott's replica of Independence Hall. The chapel is expected to reopen in November.

I just found out about the chapel in a New York Times article when I was doing some research for my Political Science senior project (yes, I have worked on it, though I am way behind).

Anyway, I thought it was cool that there was a church in a theme park (even though I am Jewish). I think that is something unique about the park. Now if only there was a Synagoge at Cedar Point. Then I could be a Good Jew while celebrating the new year at America's Rockin' Roller Coast!

Back to topic, I hope that the church still associates with the park, as though I have never been there, it seems like yet another thing that makes Knott's special.

Um, Jeff your summary really did a number on the actual article didn't it? The Church of Reflections is being moved for a "major new rollercoaster in late 2004." The $3 million ride - a floorless Top Spin model by Huss will replace the HammerHead in The Boardwalk area, not the church.

The summary is exactly the lead from the Times story, only I changed "roller coaster" to "ride," because later in the article they call RipTide a roller coaster, which I think most of us agree it will not be.

The article is wrong.

Rip Tide [a flat ride] is not going to be placed in the spot previously occupied by the church, it is replacing Hammerhead [Zamperla Rotoshake] in the Boardwalk area.

The church is being moved for the coaster, which will open in late 2004 and fall under the parks 2005 fiscal budget, hence the reason the park is only spending $5m in 2004.

Then perhaps you should've contributed it! I had to go fish out this one because even though it's old news no one contributed it. I had no less than 50 people submit the news about the Disney accident. I guess some things just aren't as sexy to post.

Not sure if that was directed at me, however an article from www.businesswire.com was posted in Gen Forums last week. I assumed that thread would have been closed and the topic would eventually be moved to the news, otherwise I would have submitted it.

What are the odd's of Hercules being relocated to KBF! ;) It must be happening since Hercules is being dismantled this year and next and KBF is planning on a new coaster for 2005! They are both Cedar Fair parks too. ;)

I'm kidding by the way!

Signature will be closed today. Sorry for the inconveinance.

Well, I did submit it, more like 5 times actually when the article was first released - but the site wouldn't let me - there was some kind of error dialogue. I didn't want to bother with site bugs so I just left it for someone to post it later.
Does anyone know when Hammerhead is being removed? or is it already?

Didn't they say that it will be taken out after Haunt? I'm sure I read/heard that somewhere.

Expect Hammerhead to make it's final runs on Nov 2nd... it comes out right after Haunt.
Is that what I said right above you?

For cripes sakes people, simmah down! I'm sure this thread was not supposed to be a childish pissing match, but that's what it turned out to be.

Swoosh, your post sounded like speculation. ThePhantomLives' post sounds like he knows what he's talking about. If he hadn't posted it, I would have taken what you said with a grain of salt.

Hoo mama! In a few years, Knott's Berry Farm might start to resemble Indiana Beach. As I mentioned in the general thread, I sure hope they keep the train and boat. It would be ironic if they moved those accross the street as well; that's where they used to be before they built Camp Snoopy.

I agree, I think Knott's, while losing a lot of tradition, is expanding quite quickly for the "little" space they have. I can't wait to see this new inverted layout!

A new invert would be the main reason I would learn to drive. Even though Ghostrider should be enough. I guess I'm just greedy :).
