Knotts has quietly removed all Wednesday Scary Farm dates from its calendar and Magic Mountain has cancelled all of its Thursday Fright Fest dates.
Magic Mountain makes sense, as those Thursdays were gloriously empty and the incoming revenue from the handful of paying guests couldn't possibly have outweighed the expense. One Thursday last year I counted about 100 cars in the parking lot. I'll bet there were more staff that night than guests.
Knotts Wednesdays weren't ever slammed but they were reasonably busy with paying guests, and by the time you add Boo-fet sales and VIPs and all the other add-ons I would be shocked if those nights weren't at least profitable.
I worry the next shoe to drop will be an end to Knott's 365 day calendar or a shortening of their hours to match Magic Mountain's. Fingers crossed.
Magic Mountain was also scheduled to be open every Monday for the rest of the year, as they usually are during this time, but all non-holiday Mondays have been cut now.
Considering Knotts has the highest attendance of the chain, and judging by food and special events probably has a profit the other parks envy. Especially considering what CF paid. I am quite sure it’s the park they will mess with the least. The question is what shape Ghost Town Alive will change too, drop altogether? Weekends only? I think you go 5 days, no tues or wed, but make those 5 days better.
Considering the whack DL also has given to Avengers campus, and that the Golden Horseshoe hasn’t even had a piano player, let alone a show in 2 years, Im surprised the bitching isn’t bigger for them.
