Knoebels Whirlwind heading to Costa Rican park

Posted | Contributed by supermandl

The Whirlwind roller coaster, which arrived at Knoebels Amusement Resort in 1993, has found a new home. The ride has been sold to Parque De Diversiones, a Costa Rican amusement park operated for the benefit of the Costa Rica Children’s National Hospital.

Yay! Sure Whirlwind isn't a *great* coaster, but I love the idea...of course, I'm biased, working for Children's Medical Services..;)

Just think, the ride could not only help pay for the patients, but create new ones as well!

Sorry, couldn't resist...I've never even been on Whirlwind so what do I know. I just like being a smart a$$.

But I digress...I agree, this is a good idea. It is also nice that the ride will enjoy a second life as a coaster...not as cluster bombs.

Okay Bill, how did you post to this before the thread was started? I'm showing you posted on 12/13 and it started on 12/14.

Anyway, I'm glad they were able to sell it as opposed to scrapping it.

Edit.... Sure now it shows the right date.*** This post was edited by sparky697 12/14/2004 3:40:19 PM ***

ROFL, beats me Frank but I think the AM/PM thingy is busted, cause I posted on this after noon today...

That children's hospital better have a good chiropractor...;)

I saw the local paper for today and the Whirlwind was front page news. Alot of important stuff happens here. ;) I was going to head down to the park today and get some pictures but the damn Christmas shopping took too long and it was already dark. I'll have to try this weekend.
I find it ironic that for once a Vekoma will be getting people out of the hospital instead of putting them in.
I agree, Coasterpunk. The Daily Item's (Sunbury) got some really odd front-page headlines sometimes.
Just as long as I don't make the newpaper (mainly the police blotter) i'm happy! :)
Good thing that Parque De Diversiones bought Knoebels Whirlwind rather than Morey's RC-48... any kids riding that thing could wind up in the children's hospital in traction.
