Knoebels or Hershey?

Hey everyone, I apologize if this is an inappropriate topic. I live in Central PA, Hershey being my hometown park, and we are traveling to a few parks next summer. We are definetly going to Kennywood, and my dad wants to go to Knoebels. I agree with him that Knoebels is great, but I would rather have Hershey be a park that we definetly go to and Knoebels being #3. My dad has not been to Hershey in a number of years, and I really think he would enjoy all of the woodies. What do you think, Hershey or Knoebels?

Why not both? They're relatively close to each other.

And while you're over this way it's only 70 miles from Hershey to Dorney! :)

Well, both of these parks have excellent woodies, so in that category it's a definate tie.  In the steel category, hershey beats out knobels seeing how knobels only steel coaster is the whrilwind which isn't that great...so hershey beats them there.  For flat rides I'd say it's close but knobels takes the cake.  So to conclude, they are both great parks, but i personally would go to hershey. (Alough the phoenix at knobels is amazing!)

pfft.  i asked that lady what CP was getting for 2002 and she said "Ah, yez, well, childrinz, it will all come out de good times, yah here?  Jus keep it real, boy!"  She then gave me the number for the lemon chill guy and told me to ask him, but not after revealing that CP was getting their "Snoop on Ice Ghetto-Spectacular!" with special apperances by Dre, Eminem, and Suge Knight.

Anyways, go to Knoebels.  You can have a good time for a very small amount of dough, which should help in convincing the rents to take you to Hershey later in the season.

Thanks, I have been to both parks, and I like Knoebels for the great  atmosphere, Hershey has more thrill rides. The woodies are great at both ones, especially Lightning Racer and Wildcat at Hershey, and Twister and Phoenix at Knoebels. I suppose Knoebels has the better woodies, free admission, and great atmosphere, I guess that would be the better choice. Oh yea thats some funny funny stuff there ravendawg!!!
Hey, lets thank the brilliant marketing department at CP.  I mean, with snoop's image, adding ice skates was only inevitable.

Hersheys
I don't understand why you need to pick either or, when they're only about an hour and-a-half (or so) away from each other. Go to one park, get a motel, and the go to the next park the following day. Easy.

Either park is nice, but Knoebels is always the better value.  Food is good and cheap, rides are good and cheap, and there is no fee for parking or entry, what could be better than that.  Well a few more coasters yes, but where else can you ride all day for $25, eat for about $5-$10, and not have to worry about what rides are closed.  In all the years I have been going to the park only twice were rides closed, and they were more kiddie rides than anything.

Phly the Pheonix
I went to both this summer with my friend Scott who's more of a casual coaster fan. We hit HP first and were fairly impressed though in our opinion only the Great Bear and Wildcat were really standout costers. Their flat selection was mediocre and the food was alright but priced on par with CP, SF, etc. The next day we hit KG and were completely blown away. Phoenix and Twister are both excellent, their flat selection is killer including a top notch haunted mansion ride, and their food is tasty and cheap! KG won us over with it's old styling, it was like stepping into the past with excellent rides to boot! Both are certainly worthy parks but we *liked* Hershey and *loved* Knoebel's!

Right on, RollerGator! Everyone to my place for a 3 day Knoebel's, Hershey, Dorney Park trip!!! I won't even charge you guys to stay. :)

Since you work for Miss Cleo now, do I get the discount rate?

First, let me say that both Knoebels and Hershey are great parks.

As for atmosphere, Knoebels still maintains that traditional family run feel. Hershey, while a corporate park, has not lost its personality... it still maintains somewhat of a traditional feel that is missing from chain parks... and some areas feel down right traditional (Comet Hollow, Tower Plaza and Minetown in particular)

If you were to say which has the BEST coaster... Knoebels would win with Phoenix. However, to compliment Phoenix, they have the great Twister and the less than stellar Whirlwind. Hershey has three great woodies ... Comet, Wildcat, and Lightning Racer. Add on to that a good collection of steel in Great Bear and the venerable old sooperdooperlooper. Add to that a wild boomerang (Sidewinder), a short mine train (Trailblazer), and the wildest mouse I have encountered (Wild Mouse).

So while Knoebels may take the prize for the BEST coaster of the two, Hershey more than makes up for it in number of coasters. (Knoebels = 1 EXCEPTIONAL wood, 1 great wood, 1 ho hum steel... Hershey = 3 great wood, 1 great steel, 2 good steel, 1 ho hum steel, 1 rabid mouse).

As for Price... can't beat Knoebels with its free admission. Hershey's $30+ is right up there with other parks. Best value for the $ I have found is during Hersheypark in the Dark at Halloween. Granted, Wildcat, Lignthing Racer, and Wild Mouse are not running, but all others are, and the price for an wrist band was $11 (on a thrusday night with a $2 off coupon) Since there were no lines, I got more rides for the dollar than at any other time this year at any park.

In all honesty... you can't go wrong with either park. Also, do not forget their eastern neighbor, Dorney Park in Allentown.

Lord Gonchar, Miss Cleo predicts - "NO Discounts" LOL).  However, she is also predicting a good dousing via HP's Roller Soaker, and more fun than imaginable at KG, DP, and HP.  Her "out on a limb" prediction bodes well for Knoebel's thrill-seekers in '03... Of course, closer to home, The predictions for Wild Adventures in'02 and for USF are almost as exciting as what the cards say is in store for KBF...

Both parks are great don't get me wrong, but I'd take Hershey over Knoebels. You can get discount tickets for HP at any Giant food store for $27(plus it save you saves you having to wait in line to buy a ticket.) Parking is $6, so it would be a total of $33. Knoebels is $25 for an all day ride pass. $8 dollars more, and you get 6 more coasters to ride. 7 if you count the Lightning Racer as separate coasters. With the addition of Rollersoaker this year at Hershey they'll have 9 more.. Knoebels does have the cool haunted house ride, but I'd rather ride a coaster anyday(especially a Classic Schwarzkopf or a B&M inverted.) Both parks have a great atmosphere, and decent collection of flat rides. It all depends on your preferences for a perfect a park experience. I don't usually eat when I am at the park. I'll take a break mid day and drive down the street to one of the many restaurants around HP. They have a place to eat for anyones budget around the park. Fast food to Fine Dining.
