Lucky for me I live 20 minutes from one of the greatest parks on the planet. All the local schools went back this week so the basic term of the two days were "what lines?"
Thursday we went got to Knoebels around 3pm. When we got to the parking lot it was not even 1/4 of the way full. I figured on getting the RAD pass but the lady at the booth reminded us that the sundown plan begins in about and hour so we opted to grab some food in the mean time. Lucky for us, the lady saved us about $10 each!
We had our minds set on the 3 Amigos at the International Food Court but only the American area was open. We ended up going to the Wharf and each of us got a Gyro, bowl of Chili, chips, and a drink for $13. No wonder Knoebels won the Golden Ticket for best park food again. We finished up our meal and still had about 20 minutes to kill before the passes went on sale.
Whats better than sitting down and playing Fascination for a few minutes? I was just doing it to pass the time but my girlfriend got addicted to it. I probably could have just game her the money for the handstamp and she would have sat there all night.
After we got our Sundown handstamp we made our way to the Phoenix. 1/4 to 1/2 train dispatches! OH YEA! Rode the good old Phoenix about 20 times at night mostly in infamous #3.
Next up Twister. For some reason I haven't been riding Twister much. Maybe the super dry summer has it running less than par, or I'm loving the Phoenix more and more? 1 lap for the night.
The Flyers, oh the Flyers! minimal waits again. My GF refuses to ride them after her incident a few years ago. After it was slowing down her tub hit the umbrella where the ride op sits. She didn't hit him, but made him jump! Ever since then she hasn't ridden. She opted to wait playing Fascination. I grabbed about 6 ride thruout the night!
After the one ride I was walking to get her and a guy had an unusual pet on a leash, not a dog, cat, lizard or pig. Any guesses? A fawn (baby deer) thats somthing you don't see every day!
She was still fascinated by Fascination so I went to the Grand Carousel. Why don't more parks have ring machines? They are so much fun. I finally got my cast off my hand so I could finally catch rings again. I think my record was 16 on one ride! 6-8 rides total
After a few laps my girlfriend caught up with me (she spent all her money on Fascination) and I decided to knock some sense into her. Whats better than knocking someones senseless, or knocking sense into someone on the Bumper Cars? Gotta love the Lusse's! The longest wait in the park since they only had about half their cars out. (like I said it was dead)! I always find it funny when you nail someone and they look at you as if saying, "Why did you hit me?" 2 or 3 laps on the night.
We figured it was about time hit the Haunted Mansion. this was the 1 millionth time on it. I know where every stunt is but stil love ther ride. My gf still jumps everytime at the truck and a few other things like the clock.
We strolled thru kiddie land and had to ride somthing. The S & S tower. Knoebels doesn't have an S & S Tower you say? WRONG! Whats a Frog Hopper? This has to be one of the funniest rides to go on. It cracks me up every time. I don't know if it's cramming into the little seats or the ride? It's just fun!
We also hit the HSTC. No trips complete without a ride or two on that. 2 rides for the night
We also hit Whirlwind once. Unfortunately everyone else wanted to go agin so we got two laps instead of the usual one! yea reride
Somewhere in there my girlfriend went back to Fascination and I wander the park solo, grabbing fries and a drink. When I went back to check on her she was gone, out of money again! After roaming the park she caught up with me and we rode the train. It was dark so we didn't see much. That train would be so cool haunted for PPP!
We had a pretty busy night from 4pm till their 9 pm close.
Friday I had a doctors appointmet in Danville at 10:45 am. By noon I was back to Knoebels solo. Grabbed the RAD pass with my discount coupon. and was off to the races. Lines were longer than the night before but still minimal.
I chalked up about 30 laps on the Phoenix mainly in #3 although I did bounce around seat to seat a little. Spent most of my day here! After the one op came back from a routine lost item pick up under the Phoenix I asked what the strangest thing they found was. They informed me of a lost hair piece!!!! Too bad that wasn't an on ride photo! Some poor guy reaching for his hair then ...SMILE!
I was having fun on the carousel until some guy around 50 years old pushed me out of the way to grab an outside horse! F'in prick! I has hoping to knock him senseless on the bumper cars but didn't waste my time!
I was honing in on my flying techniques for PPP a little today as well. After one great ride the ride op came up to me. I thought he was going to yell at me for my flying but just asked me where Kennywood was (I was wearing my all over Steel Phantom shirt).
I met up with a few Acers who were marathoning the Phoenix, and some other friends who were camping there for the weekend. I went up to their campsite for an hour or so then grabbed a few final night rides on the Phoenix! :)
I also spyed two great mullets at the park! The infamous Mullethawk and your plain old typical mullet. I should have taken a picture or two.
In all two great noncrowed days at Knoebels!
