Knoebels 7-5-02

Associated parks:
None

I arrived at the park for a 11am opening at 10:15 and walked around the park a bit. It looked very nice. I bought a wristband for all day and went to Twister and waited. But first I will tell you I will rate the coasters from 0- minus being horrible and 5+ being awesome.

When we finally got there there was a small line outside so we waited until 11 when it opened. Finally they opened it and it was a one train wait for seat 3.1. I heard good things about this coaster and I was not disappointed. Twister is now my #1 wooden coaster

The airtime was incredible. It was smooth as glass and I got great headchopper effects. The first drop was amazing and there is something about this coaster I love. I give this a 5+! I needed to get on all the coasters so I moved on. Twister is roller coaster #85 for me. I am going on three trips to get to a hundred when I get it on Hypersonic XLC.

I quickly got over and hit Whirlwind. On the lift it made this loud noise that sounded like it was going to get stuck but it went on. The drop isn't that bad then the two corkscrews give a little head-banging but is all over way to short. Whirlwind Coaster #86 Rating: 2

I saw the flyers which I would later ride and get to snap but more on that later. I walked over to Phoenix and took a ride on 1.3 with a 10 minute wait and got banged up. It was probably the most-airtime full ride I have ever been on but it was just plain rough. Phoenix Coaster #87 I gave it a 3+. The last bunny hops are incredible though. I took some time to gaze at the model of it and thought it was interesting.

By now it was time to slowly wander over to High Speed Thrill Coaster. But I was not going to pass up a spin on the classic Haunted Mansion. I give it a 4. It was a walk-on so I got right on. It was great! I like the part where the headlights come on and the car honks at you. It is also one of my favorite rides in the park.

So now it was 12:00 and I walked over to High Speed Thrill Coaster. Man it looked like it would fall down. When the car went up I actually saw the lift hill shake. I hopped on with a one train wait and enjoyed it. Just a suggestion don't pass down this little coaster you won't regret it. High Speed Thrill Coaster, Coaster #88. So I would rate that a 2+.

Now having all the coasters done I decided to relax and get a little candy at the Fudge Shop. I had some rock candy and enjoyed it. Then I went to check out the Flyers. I 've heard lots of tips on snapping them so I was ready. I got into a tub as a single rider after a 10 minute wait. They finally started the ride and I started to steer.

After a little bit of getting used to it I propelled it up very high and brushed against the trees and got them to snap after I came down I was so happy so I tried again. All in all I snapped them three times. I enjoy flyers now and will ride them at PKD later in the month.

So now I went back to the picnic area and it was pretty hot out so I decided to get wet in the pool. I went and had a pretty good time. I think all amusement parks should have a little pool to cool down. After an hour I got out got my stuff back on and noticed a funny sign. It said a reward of $25.00 for help finding the person and the arrest of the person who writes on the walls in the changing room places.

So then I went over to see the wait for Twister which was long so I decided just get get some souvenirs and go home. I had been on all the coasters and been on some flats so I would call it a day. I got a picture of Twister and Phoenix during Phall PhinPhest. So I left around 3:30.

Overall I think Knoebels is a great park and I hope to return some time. And now I found a new type of ride Flyers so now I will ride them if the parks I go to have them. So here are my top five steel and wood:

Wood

#1 Twister

#2 Great White at MP

#3 Villain

#4 Cyclone at SFNE

#5 Lightning Racer

Steel

#1 Superman:ROS at SFNE and Millennium Force and Alpengeist

#2 Nitro

#3 Apollo's Chariot

#4 Superman:UE at SFwoa

#5 X-Flight

How busy was it when you were leaving? I'm avoiding my local parks like the plague this weekend due to fear of mega crowds.

Too bad you only got one lap on Thister & Phoenix. Twister IS awesome, but I liked Phoenix even better. BTW, you forgot to give a rating on Whirlwind, I'm sure it was a 5+, right? ;)

Nothing... NOTHING... can prepare you for... the Fourth Dimension!

There were 40 minute waits:(

WOW! 40 Minutes! Was that just for the coasters (I'm guessing)? Were there 1 or two trains running. Knoebels is notorious for one train operations durring the week since thats when they offer the RAD pass. 2 trains on the weekend when you pay per ride.

Usually the flats don't get too big of lines. The longest is usually for the Bumper Cars and Train. I'm too spoiled going down weekdays with walkons and minimal coaster waits.

Good TR. I was gonna go down to the park but decided against it.

2 trains on coasters. Flats had 20 min waits.

Based on your top 5 wood ratings, and the fact that you've been to SFNE, I think a ride on Boulder Dash is in order at Lake Compounce. This should change your rankings a little bit.
