K'nex Flyer

I just discovered something that may be of interest to the K'nex Scremin' Serpent owners out there.

If you take two of the really small gray/silver bars and stick them into the holes in the back row of a car on the train, and then put two granite 90 degree conectors on the ends of them, you can put your peeps in flyer style. I use a purple bar and put it in the 45 degree position of both connectors to prevent rotation. You have to use the back row the cars or your pitch radius will be very large. You can probably also use Deja Vu style seating to get 4 peeps into a car, but I haven't quite worked that out yet.

On the down side of this, track when the train is hanging is very expensive in terms of supports, especially if you're running a 5 or 6 car train.

Enjoy.

It was like that when I got here.

Hey, that's a pretty good idea.

I think I understand what your saying, and I might just try it. However do you have anyway of getting a pic online?

Not at the moment, no. No camera (although that's not too much of a problem) and no host either. I suppose I could submit it as a screenshot to coasterbuzz games with a crappy track. ;) Sorry. I would've just linked a pic if I could.

I made an Impulse using that idea but inverted style. It was pretty cool.

You better scream now, because at 420 feet now one can hear you.

Just curious as to how you made an impulse out of a K'nex kit.

Finished my "prototype" flyer:
It's about 6.5' tall (with the serpent mouth). Has an outside half loop to start, a horseshoe over the lift hill, an inline twist and a mangled pretzel loop. Took about 20 hrs. to build and three sets and three mail orders of extra parts. It actually worked out really well. I also have pics of the train design.

Don't have server space, so mail me for pix:

You can use webshots.com to host the pics.

Or Yahoo! photos, seeing how you already have a Yahoo! account.

Nice work! I see they obeyed the fun & safety guide by removing their prosthetic legs, but how in the world did they sneak hats on?

The hat wearers have to sit on the left of the train or I have clearance problems coming out of the inline.

My security isn't very good. And my lift motor doesn't work either. I guess it's a Vekoma flyer (based on the lift position) at an SF park.

Wow, I was impressed with your creativity. The pic of the inline looked "realistic"...Maybe i could try to make a coaster out of my own..but i know i gotta buy more Knex sets to be able to pull offwhat youdid with your flyer and the other guy did with his launched coaster ..my kudos to you two!
