Kinzel will stay on as Cedar Fair CEO through 2012

Posted | Contributed by Jeff

Richard Kinzel, who just last year indicated he planned to retire as early as January, 2008, has signed a new contract that could keep him at the helm of Cedar Fair LP until 2012. The publicly traded Sandusky partnership revealed the existence of the contract in a regulatory filing Dec. 15. It guarantees Mr. Kinzel, 66, a minimum of $1.2 million annually.

so now we have to start the debate of how Kinzel is going to go out with a bang in 2012 lol:)

Wow, an early Christmas present for coaster lovers. :)

Kinzel makes less annually (not including bonuses) than many of the Six Flags CEO's in the past... and his parks AREN'T in the red.
^That's because, unlike the SF CEO's he actually knows what he's doing.
A Northwest Ohio boy done good.

Who doesn't love the Man? He is well respected by everyone he employs and everyone in the industry.

The kicker is he still takes the time to make guests feel important. I know of countless stories of Dick waiting for a ride on one of the coasters at CP or walking around picking up trash as he goes or doting on a child with a family.

I agree with janfredrick, I think he'll want to personally push the "self-destruct" buttons on both TTD and Disaster Transport before he leaves the helm ;)
There won't be any Cedars left by then :(

Throw the bum out :)

I'm shocked and surprised. It is great news! I wonder why he changed his mind? Is Hilderbrant pissed?
that would be Falfas who would be pissed.

I'm sure Falfas is fine with the whole thing. Culturally, it's my understanding that he's already assuming a very visible role in operations, which makes sense since that's one of the "O's" in "COO." He doesn't strike me as an ego-driven kind of guy, and he's still very well compensated.

Not unless he drops the "s" and changes his first name to Bob (see #44): http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0069704/
I'm glad to see that he's sticking around. With the new parks in Cedar Fair's portfolio, they are going to need a strong, knowledgable backbone.
Oh, I agree completely Jeff, its just hes not very young himself.
