Kinzel talks about the transition of Michigan's Adventure to a Cedar Fair park

Posted | Contributed by Craig the Coaster Freak

Dick Kinzel, CEO of Cedar Fair, LP, the new owner of Michigan's Adventure, responded to rumors and praised the former owner in an interview for a local newspaper. Kinzel says a large steel coaster may indeed be in store for the park, but would not say when.

The $90 Season Pass includes admission to MA's Waterpark (unlike CP which charges extra).

I do NOT expect anything big to happen to MA on a regular basis. 400,000 is only 1/9 of attendence of CP and Muskegon is not on the way to anywhere.
While I am sure CF will make improvements, MA will probably always have the smallest attendence of any CF park.

The media can be conveniently told to count space shots as coasters to boast the number quoted. This is often used by parks to lift them into double figues which sounds better.

I'm with ruffryder56. It'll probably be a Morgan Hyper.
So if you buy a season pass to Michigan's Adventure, it will be good at CP? My family doesn't believe this, as how you could "in theory" by a Cedar Point season pass for 90$? It sounds great! CP season passes are more. Has somebody already called?

I doubt Cedar Fair will be putting in any Morgan hypers anymore. well, maybe. I seriously think we'll see either a B&M or an Intamin.
i woudl love to see an Intamin at MA, AND at SFWoA (that would be 3 within a VERY close proximity to me! :D )

So would everyone, but Morgans are inexpensive compared to B&M or Intamin, Morgans aren't that bad either.
Judging from CF's history, a Morgan or an Intamin appears to be a safe bet. Especially if a little orange thing in germany turns out as good as expected.

BTW - MIAdv doesn't need landscaping -- it needs trees.

Hi Gang, I would like to point out that Michigans Adventure in my mind has been a failure until the mid 1990's. Yes, I am pretty frank, but I am sorry, the park is very ugly and it can be partly the ownership but I do think it represents how bad the local government is in the Muskegon Area. The local government has had a hard time getting traffic coming off the expressway to the road exit. If Michigans Adventure can have a clean traffic situation. They need to redo the parking lot. What else the Michigan Adventure situation has is that it has much farmland/dustbowl area behind the park, that land will be much use to the park, something Cedar Point doesn't have, land. The park right now, is as ugly as it gets. Many buildings need to come down, I am talking about foodstands and the aweful arcade must be just demolished. What is nice about all these parks is that rides can be moved arounds. Look for something to be moved over to the adventure, it could be as big as the wildcat or as small as a kiddie ride, but something will be moved. Cedar Point will be something else in the next 6 years. If CP can move the aquarium, dolphin stadium, move the Swinging ship, and do us a favor of dismantiling the Disaster Transport, that side can be a lovely Boardwalk type of area. The Transport is being used as a Storage Facility during the whole year except october and is a rollercoaster that is fun, but needs to be disposed of to move on and make CP bigger and better. I have many opinions on the Disaster Transport, I did enjoy the ride the first three years it was open, and loved Avalanche Run before the Transport

A couple of things about this:

* Wow, $90 for a season pass. I only paid $65 for my WOF pass, and it works at all the CF:LP parks as well of course, so ha :)

* I'm glad to see that Kinzel liked Shivering Timbers. Hopefully it won't get the usual CF:LP wooden coaster treatment. One of the first things that they did after purchasing WOF was to slap trims on the top of the Timber Wolf's first drop. The ride has not been the same since (except for the occasional brakeless ride).

* Who knows when they will install it, but I would put my money on a Morgan hyper. They are relatively inexpensive, and they provide awesome rides. Not to mention the fact that Cedar Fair has three of them, and they are reliable.

* Some thought that CF:LP would close the park. Why would they buy a park and then close it?

* Did anyone else notice that MA cost CF:LP only $3 million more than Millennium Force?

According to the "official" count, next year's new coaster lineup will feature 17 Arrow 4-Ds, 21 TA2Ks, 34 B&M floorless's, 17 Intamin Gigas, 12 beemer flyers, and 247 CCIs. And oh yeah, CP will receive one of all of these.
At the moment Dorney's Pass is $95.00.
The best time to buy seems to be before Christmas.
I was looking over the weekend because I will be leaving next weekend for a trip that will include Silver Dollar City.(KW, PKI, SDC, SFst.L?, H.W.) My grandma gave me this travel mag that has a Mo. add in in featuring the Mamba, and I really want to ride it. The deal at WOF for a pass is $60.00 when purchasing a minimum of three. There are also ticket deals for Pepsi, MT. Dew, and Dr. Pepper cans as well as printable coupons. They do not need a specially marked can. I don't think I'll get there this time around. It looks like it has a lot of trees, and the pictures on it's site are heavenly. Better than CP's pictures. CP is prettier in person.
My family just got a AAA membership and you can get Six Flags passes from them at a discounted price. Yes, early purchases might be better - I'm still breaking in my 2001pass.:)
Also, there are in park discounts available with your AAA card. AAA suggests you ask at the information office at the parks for a list of what's available. I just get the card, I haven't been to any park with it yet.

I think you will see an giga coaster for Knott's Berry Farm, and a B&M inverted coaster for Valleyfair for 2002 season, before you will see anything at Michigan's Adventure, they can wait a year or 2. The other two parks need more coasters before they do. Hey Dick Kinzel what's Cedar Fair plans for 2002, Valleyfair & Knott's Berry Farm?
The only reason I don't think MI will build their steel coaster for next year is because...Let's say CP builds a coaster next year along with MI then they both split profit around the Detroit area. So I'm guessing CF would hope to alt. the years the rides are built. CP one year, then MI the next year. I don't know, but that seems to make the most sense to hold off on MI's new coaster.
