Kings Island to retire Boo Blasters dark ride

Posted | Contributed by PhantomTails

From the official Kings Island Facebook page:

t’s the end of an era as the Boo Blasters on Boo Hill family dark ride will close to make way for future development. Since 2010, the young and young-at-heart have created cherished memories working together to blast whimsical ghosts, ghouls and goblins back to the underworld on this classic indoor attraction. 👻🪦 Guests will have until Monday, Sept. 1 to take their final rides on Boo Blasters on Boo Hill before its curtain is closed for good.

You would assume the ride system will come back as something 'new'?

Nothing to see here. Move along.

We would hope. There's rumors of maybe a return of Phantom Theater. But also could be a whole new theme. The thing that makes it tough to figure out is the question if they are renewing the Peanuts IP license. If they do then that becomes a possibility. Otherwise it's possible for a Looney Tunes theme, the return of Phantom Theater or removal is an option.

Watch the tram car please....

Just move the second B a little bit and you'd have a compelling theme. Upcharge-able, even.

There are some screenshots floating around that claim KI set a survey a few years ago asking for interest in what was basically a Peanuts-themed version of Midway Mania. Presumably if they did that they’d remove the current ride system.

I think once the bill comes in for changing all the Peanuts stuff they will renew, they just want to play ball with the estate it seems.

I rode it a few days ago. It had about a 30 minute wait, but it broke down and I waited over an hour. Most people in line left, but I was enjoying the air conditioned queue.

My blasters didn’t work, so that was no fun. But it’s a really great ride. Maybe a little childish and cartoony.

I think a return to Phantom Theatre would be a hit. All signs point to either that, or a Loony Tunes retheme. Rumor is that Snoopy is leaving the park in 2026.

Travis, were you there Friday? Cause I swore I mighta seen you. If so, it’s a shame we didn’t cross paths. I owe you a hug.
I also rode Boo Blasters one last time. My guns didn’t work either. Don’t laugh, but I used my Prestige Pass one-time Fast Lane for it. Which was not a waste as it had one of the longest lines I encountered all day. I hit Orion toward the end of my visit after it’d had a brief downtime so the line was pretty much non-existent.
I made a little post on FB with some shots of Boo Blasters, an on-ride selfie, and the note “Bye-Bye, Spooky Ride”, lol.
On my way out I caught the girl at the face painting place fake fan dancing to the music and we struck up a conversation which ended in KI Pride Night as a topic. She has a trans brother, blah blah, good times. Until I noticed the old biddie who is her co-worker, (when she realized she was talking to the gay) walk away with a sour, disgusted look on her b face. Funny how things shift but she was downright friendly and funny up til then. I don’t think the young lady noticed it but I did and it only made me get louder.
Anyway, the young lady (who works for Kaman’s Arts- just as reliable as Dippin Dots, I’m told) told me to look for Looney Toons next year and that “they” want to retheme and rename Orion to… Wait for it… Superman. I screamed out loud NOOOOOOOO! (And tried to make it sound as much like YAAASSSS! as I could and still stay honest)
This is exactly the Six Flags stuff I don’t want to see happen. Random super hero stuff stuck in a theme park where they don’t belong. It makes me crazy. DON’T TOUCH MY KINGS ISLAND!!
Thank you.

Can I provide a friendly bit of feedback? Line breaks would make your posts a lot more approachable and inviting to read as opposed to a wall of text.

Consider yourself lucky.

You should talk to me in person sometime.

No breaks. None, whatsoever.

I can vouch for that. [BREAK]

But it's not so bad ;) [BREAK]

Coming soon to Cedar Flags Sandusky:

I was there on Thursday, RCMAC. A little hot outside, but the lines and crowd were perfect that day. Enough people to make it fun, but not too many people so the lines were short all day.

Funny memory about Boo Blasters... About three or four years ago, I was riding by myself (like usual) and the ride stopped, just before the scary red-eyed skeletons in the dark. The lights came on and there was a spiel about remaining seating and the ride will resume shortly, ect.

No sound, then "pitter patter-pitter-patter." A litttle boy, about five or six, ran in front of my doom buggy. I hollered at him. "Hey little buddy." He stopped in front of me and listened for a second. "Where did you come from, kiddo? You shouldn't be running around in here. It's dangerous."

Then I heard heavier footsteps running towards us. "CLUNK-CLUNK-CLUNK-CLUNK."

The boy looked back at the sound and darted away. I yelled, "Wait, kid. Wait."

As the pimply teenage ride host ran past me, I pointed and said, "He went that way."

Then I heard the pitter-patter on the other side of the wall. The youngling laughed really hard as I heard someone scoop him up.

Moments later, the lights turned off and the ride started again.

That was definitely the most interesting ride I had on Boo Blasters.

What if next year it becomes Bugs Bunny's Boo Blasters on Boo Hill? Or Loony Tunes Phantom Theater (Presented by Snickers.)
