Kings island opening weekend question?

crazy horse's avatar

Ok, every year we have been going to kings island for opening weekend. I even booked our room for 2 nights this year(fri & sat).

Before I booked the room, I checked the park scheduale and it said that the park was open sat and sund just like in the past. Now I look at the scheduale and it says that they are only open on sat.

Did I miss something???

what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard.
Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it.
I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

Glad you posted this. I was planning on missing the craziness of opening day and going on Sunday morning. Well I just called the park and they confirm what is on the website. So guess I will be there on Saturday for an opening day craze... NOTE: They are open on Apr 24 from 5 - 10 PM. That should be a great time to go.

Yea, this really is a dissipointment.

We checked the hours and dates out before we booked the room, and now it changed. I hate driving all the way down there for one day of long lines.

I wonder why they would change this so close to opening day?

As someone who follows KI on a daily basis, I can tell you Sunday hasn't been on the calendar since 2008.

With that said, it still is a little odd/unfortunate. Corp. buy-out that day is what has been posted.

Where has that been posted?

The only thing I see on there website is 'CLOSED'.

I wouldn't worry about it. Obviously Diamondback's line is going to be packed. It's going to be packed all year. I am sure the lines will move along quickly especially if they are running all three trains. :) I plan on going up Friday evening to get my season pass processed early. ;) I have my voucher plus I just want to get out-of-town anyway. ;)

From my experience, most B&M's usually have kickass capacity, even on the busiest days. :) I am pretty much going to show up and not worry about anything. I will ride it eventually. :) The coaster isn't going anywhere!

Another perk to having Diamondback is the lines for Delirium and Drop Zone, er, Tower will be shorter, at least until summer. :P

I guess it's a bigger dissapointment because it has been a tradition for us for so many years. It is always fun getting together with our friends(some we only get to see durring this trip) and having fun in the park for the weekend.

Now this has changed our whole trip, and more than likley will be changed to later in the year if at all. Several of us are comming in from long distance, and don't want to drive all that way if it's just for one very buisy day at the park.

The sunday was always great because they were not quite as buisy as they are on sat.

Sunday is a private event. I believe it was on the schedule since its release. That being said, I do believe there will be a SP night on Friday.Chuck, ALso remember DB and Beast open a hour early to passholders on Sat. Its the only time you won't wait 4hrs for it.

I thought they cancled the season pass preview on friday?

^^They did, and there is no Diamondback ERT on the 18th due to the First Rider Auction.

Also, I apologize if I was being rude, and I do feel bad for your situation as well. Hopefully you can make other plans! :)

IMHO That is rediculous. They don't have to open DB for that night but they could make a dime. Increase the hype and get a ton of passes processed. It was schedualled. I know it was.Chuck, saying the park has the right to change anything at anytime and will shut up now.

I dont know when you guys got this information, but I remember going on more then a month ago and finding out the park would only be open on Saturday. I knew what that ment for me, I wouldnt be going that day (its also the day of the ND Spring Game which I will attend if I get the day off.) That mild disapointment however was quickly tempered by the announcement of the coaster event at KI a few weekends later, Ill wait until then to hop on Diamondback, Im sure it will still be amazing 2 weeks older.

That's what I'm waiting for as well.

When I was at Canada's Wonderland last summer Behemoth's massive queue was not only full it was overflowing into the midway. We got in line assuming we'd wait at least 90 mins. Guess what? We never stood still. The line just kept on moving. In the middle of the queue were beverage vending machines that no one was using because you didn't have time to stop and put your money in.

Less than 45 mins later we were sitting on the train. If operations at Kings Island are close to the same you won't have to worry about long lines equalling long waits.

On the Diamondback website it states that it will have about a 1,620 hourly capacity, and Behemoth states 1,545 per hour. If all goes well, it looks like Diamonback will be more or a people eater than what Mamoosh just said about Behemoth. I for one am not complaining :)

I'm kind of curious about where the difference comes from. If the trains are the same, what would make DB faster?

It is good to see that, even with the different seating and the shorter train (32 as compared to 36 of Nitro, RB, and AC), the capacity hasn't suffered.

It's the exchange rate, Andy. 1 Canadian = 1.0485 Americans.

1,620 Blows any other ride in the park out of the water including Racer. FOF opened stating 1400 but never operated four trains it was designed to run. In fact except for a couple years. I've only seen it operate two. SOB's Capasity has suffered hugely from the smaller trains. Beast actually seems to have improved a bit since the Magnetic Braking.

^^Hohohoho. But is the exchange rate based on intelligence or weight? 'Cause one way it makes sense, the other -- not so much. ;)

Perhaps ride time? I know, I'm a genius. According to each ride's official site, Behemoth has a ride time of three minutes and ten seconds, and Diamondhead has a ride time of three minutes.

I am taking my cousins to the park on Saturday, the week after opening. My tickets are already at the park waiting for me and my motel room is already booked. I am very excited.

I hope that "Music in the Park" doesn't" pee on my parade.
