Kings Island officials unveiled the new “Tropical Plunge” during a press conference Wednesday afternoon. The seven-story slide complex will drop riders from the top of a 65-foot platform in a free fall that leads into one of several slides with several banks and turns.

And actually, that will be a nice enhancement. On a busy day the traffic on K.I. Drive is terrible with cars lined up both directions trying to cross oncoming traffic. I'm surprised there aren't more accidents. Having one entrance for both north and south will be a relief. And dedicated lanes for passholders will be nice too. He talked as if it will be a scan and go kind of thing.
I try to avoid the busiest days which means the north gate is usually closed so coming from the north you have to try to cross the oncoming traffic with no traffic light to get into the south gate (the one closest to Soak City). This improvement has been in the works for awhile with more info at this link:
The new slides were an expected surprise meaning that it is a good addition the Soak City in a spot that was purposely left during the expansion a few years ago and some how Kings Island managed to keep this a secret all the way up until the announcement today.
I'm glad I took the long lunch / afternoon off and went down for the announcement. I also enjoyed the walk on rides with RCMAC on Woodstock glider, Diamondback, Beast, Backlot, and Banshee.
A day at the park is always better that a day at the office even if your sun screen bottle explodes in your pocket or you have to dodge some rain showers.

So why did the pre release picture have the Racer and movie theater shown in it?
Still trying to understand what they were saying/showing relates to new water slides and toll booths...
It was to throw you off. I guess you haven't been following announcements of announcements very long. They mostly always do that.

Or, maybe it was some random shot of KI and nobody gave a thought to tricking anxious enthusiasts.
Intentional or not, I guess there was no surprise that sudden speculation arose from that picture, and I'll include myself in that group.
I'm glad I went to the announcement and had a chance to meet up with Dale. The park was indeed dead empty today, so it was awesome to share the afternoon with a fellow Buzzer.
The park closed about an hour early due to an approaching severe storm. The drive back to Columbus was harrowing but I made it.
What!?! Park PR departments aren't organized around tricking anxious enthusiasts?

In the case of KI, the KI Central staff are pretty dialed in with the park's PR department. They are usually employed as "the messenger" for things like this.
Kings dominion is adding a giant frissbee called Delirium, Wonderland is adding 2 new flats, a flyer and a new tower ride called skyhawk. Worlds of fun is adding 5 kids rides to revamp planet snoopy.
