The rumors are indeed true. Paramount's Kings Dominion in Doswell, Virginia will be the first to receive an Air Thrust model coaster by S&S Power of Utah (known for their space shot and turbo drop tower rides).
From the press release... Description: HyperSonic XLC is the world's first compressed-air launch coaster. Unique acceleration, zero gravity airtime and free-fall sensations combine to make HyperSonic a one-of-a-kind coaster experience. Pneumatic tires and specially designed shock absorbers provide an unbelievably smooth ride that must be experienced.
Debut: Spring 2001.
Location: Candy Apple Grove.
Ride Manufacturer: S&S Power, Utah
Track Length: 1,560 feet
Number of Passengers: 8 per cycle
Top Speed: 80 m.p.h.
Acceleration: 0 - 80 / 1.8 seconds!
Track Elevation: 165 feet
Tires and Guide Wheels: Pneumatic
Angle of Ascent: 90 degrees vertical
Angle of Descent: 90 degrees vertical
Air Compressors: 4 / 2 at 250 Hp each. And 2 at 200Hp
People will come from far away places to ride it,mostly just enthusiusts, but that's ok.I just found out that there will be a few more turns and the floater hill before the breaks,so that will be cool.TA2K is not designed to be a long ride,I mean its's launched,so that takes so much time from the actual ride,I agree PKD doesn't have a signature ride, they do need one,but for now Volcano will do and maybe HSXLC will be very good.
Thrust Air is gonna be like the Prototype.

All Hail a new coaster. "Bring it on", I say! PKD has some great coasters, why y'all gotta knock 'em? OL:FOF-top notch. If you want a better coaster-build one yourself! Waynes world is old, though. Was The Hurler(killer first turn) always called the hurler? Ok bye-bye and pray for short lines!
Hurler has always been named that and has been at the park since 1994.
It is going to be sweet!!! Man I hope the lines will be sort. But it will be just like Volcano and Outer Limits, 2hours or more. I been going to PKD for almost 11 years and I've never been bored of it. Busch Gardens, Willamsburg is a cool park, but it doesn't have as may coaster as PKD. And there water rides like escape from Pompe didn't get me wet like Diamond Falls and the Roman rapids is a sort compared to White Water Canyon. Whats up with Busch Gardens anyway, they don't ever hve a wooden roller coaster? You can have a good park with out a wooden coaster. Alpengist is better than Volcano I have to admit. HSXLT is going to be cool and I will get to the park an hour before it open to ride it. I can't wait till March 2001!!!! I saw it on News ch. 8 and it looked cool. It shoot of and it went up 165ft hill and came down and went around some curves and and went over a camel back and it was over. It may be sort but it is going to be fun! For all of u who think PKD is a dumb park, then u go and try to build a park and you will see how hard it is. The best ride at PKD is The Grizzly. There is nothing better in the park better than that. That why I think King's Dominion is always going to have cool rides and have the most coaster on the EAST COAST!!!!!!!!
The Coasters 15 Seconds Long. How CAN The Line Be Long?
How come everybodys complainin about this ride??
I think it's gonna be great and I for one can't wait to ride it.
It's funny how most of you people praised the MF talkin about the first drop being almost straight down and now we finally have a coaster that actually goes straight down 165ft drop and everybody dogs it.(weird)
What's up with that??????????
People dog it because PKD seems to prioritize quantity over quality. They have the most roller coasters on the East Coast but does a single one last longer than 2 minutes? I'll take Apollo's Chariot and Alpengeist over anything at PKD.

Vern: I don't think most people are dogging the ride, just its placement. It's hardly the "killer app" to put at a park that lacks a signature ride.

There is no other Paramount park that would have been any better. Any park in that chain would be getting the same response. I think Hypersonic would have worked better as a Vegas attraction.
I'le hope they start building soon!
Kings Dominion isn't actually taking quantity over quality. These 3 newest coasters have all been destroyed by coaster enthusiasts (although Volcano is my #4 coaster), however, that doesn't mean Kings Dominion isn't spending BIG bucks and LOTS of time to get them. Outer Limits, Volcano, and Hypersonic were/are all prototype attractions that Kings Dominion took the "risk" of trying first. No one knew how Outer Limits or Volcano would work out and no one knows at all how Hypersonic will work out. The rides Kings Dominion are building are the basis for the future of coasters. We will and are seeing larger and smoother coasters like Outer Limits and we will someday see larger and more effecient Volcano type coasters. They couldn't risk making a huge air thrust coaster because if something didn't work right then it would be pure hell for Paramount. I personally believe Hypersonic will be one of the greatest coasters there is and an amazing rush and it hasn't actually been said yet that it will use only one train. I know I will be trying to head up to Virginia as soon as I can!
Oh yea I forgot to mention that the Hurler is highly underrated. I have never been on the one at PKD but the one at Carowinds has been amazing this year. It may be short but it gives the most amazing airtime and those turns are sweet. As a matter of fact it is my FAVORITE (thats right u heard me and im not crazy) woodie. I've never been on the one at PKD though and it may not give as good a ride despite the track being the same.
I think Hurler is PKD's best woodie,as long as you sit on the right side then those first two turns don't hurt.

I have to agree with you on that one... Hurler is the best woodie at PKD. Its ample airtime surpasses both the Rebel Yell and the Grizzly. I'm excited about HyperSonic XLC and all, since I live very close to Kings Dominion... but I have to admit, I'm disappointed by it's length. The duration of the ride will be even shorter than that of Volcano:TBC and I am also disappointed at the height... I was hoping that when Thrust Air 2k was built, it would be taller than the prototype. But Kings Dominion does not have clearance for the 170 foot mark, so we'll have to be fine with 165 feet. Too bad PKD will probably never have a hypercoaster. I also agree that no matter what the turnout of HyperSonic is, Paramount is overusing the prototype rides. They just need a traditional rollercoaster, doesn't have to be a hypercoaster, but something big and something that lasts at LEAST two minutes. And for those of you who say that Busch Gardens Williamsburg needs a new coaster to compete with HyperSonic, I disagree. I'd take Apollo's Chariot or Alpengeist over any of the rides at Kings Dominion anyday. Also on the matter of BGW, I heard that back when Alpengeist was planned and built and the contract was signed, supposedly that contract was for three B&M coasters in 5 years. This very well might be true. Look for the highly rumored B&M coaster over the Rhine River of the park within the next couple of years (if my memory serves me right, Alpengeist was built in '97, so this means if that was the case of the contract, the new B&M coaster should come by 2002). Until then, we can only hope...
