Kings Dominion announces Planet Snoopy rides, free pre-K pass

Posted | Contributed by Jeff

From the press release:

The world's largest PEANUTS-themed children's area is growing again! Kings Dominion announced plans to expand the Planet Snoopy area of the park in 2017. Additions include three family rides, a new event space, and upgraded food and beverage locations. Plus, children three to five years of age can experience all that Planet Snoopy has to offer for FREE with the brand new Kings Dominion Pre-K Pass.

Three new family rides coming to Planet Snoopy in 2017!

Brand new family-friendly rides include:

  • Kite Eating Tree – Charlie Brown's kite is stuck in a tree again, can you help get it down? On this family ride, guests will be propelled to the top of the tower and bounce down to the platform as they experience sensations of weightlessness.
  • Sally's Sea Plane – Join Sally as she soars through the air high above the sea! Kids and their parents are in store for an adventure with a trip on Sally's airplane. Take a trip round-and-round on this giant plane as it rotates and rises into the air.
  • Peanuts 500 – Pick your car and rev up the engine with the Peanuts™ crew on this fun car ride that is the perfect size for your little racers. Start your engines and hit the track in race cars designed for parents and children to ride together as they move in a circle and whip around the corner on a closed track.

This latest expansion to the 14-acre kid's area brings the total number of rides in Planet Snoopy to 20. All of the rides are designed for families to experience together.

In celebration of the Planet Snoopy additions, the limited-time Kings Dominion Pre-K Pass is brand new for 2017 and grants complimentary admission to children ages three to five years for the entire 2017 season. Online registration for the Pre-K Pass is available beginning August 20 and can be processed at the park beginning September 3. The Pre-K Pass includes one free visit during the fall of 2016 to enjoy the Great Pumpkin Fest in Planet Snoopy which begins on September 24. Visit kingsdominion.com for further information.

What a disappointment for a larger sized park that hasn't had a coaster since 2010.

Couldn't even give us the used enterprise.

I understand, but every park has an "off" year every once in a while.
As for coasters, I'd say fans enjoy a wide and varied collection of rides there. There's only one, or ok, two real clunkers I can think of.

And, hey, maybe this announcement isn't all. Isn't your Hurler scheduled for some love? And maybe Apple Turnover will make a reappearance... someday...

(And btw, only thing worse than an enthusiast with acrophobia might be one with agoraphobia.)

How sad that a park decided to add rides that will appeal to the 99.87564238% of guests who aren't coaster enthusiasts.

This seems like a smart move by Cedar Fair for this park.

The addition itself is fine. I think the issue is that they overhyped the announcement on social media, leading most to believe the announcement would have something to do with Hurler. They even posted this teaser on Instagram with the hashtag #KD2017:

The *BIG* new thing here is the free Pre-K pass...

Not that that's going to impress enthusiasts. But families with little ones in tow...they'll be impressed...and profitable.

You still have Zoidberg.... You ALL have Zoidberg! (V) (;,,;) (V)

They already have a giant kiddie ride area...why hype this so much? Wtf is going on with Hurler? Carowinds is getting a bunch of new flats and KD gets nothing? This park needs flats too. They're pretty balanced on coasters right now.

Yeah, a smart move that appeals to... About 3 people according to their social media accounts' comments. The rest are pure disappointment not unlike what enthusiasts feel.

Hey, let's ride (random Intamin coaster). What? It's broken down? I totally didn't expect that.

Have you not noticed social media accounts are full of nothing but complainers? Apparently the "atta-boys" find better things to do.

I have a heap of respect for Cedar Fair's current management. I feel safe thinking that they're not basing their decisions just on what 3 people on their social media accounts are saying.

And why wouldn't they hype it? Just because you're not the intended audience doesn't make it a bad idea.

We already have the biggest kids area in the chain. And as someone with children, it's already pretty awesome. Would have much rather seen just about anything. PvZ to the theater, RMC to Hurler, the enterprise from whatever other park just moved it out. I figured it would be a hyper since an airtime machine is the only thing we're missing but oh well I guess we get what we get.

Seeing as how there's still not been a major coaster announced for CF do we think CW or MA are looking at one?

Some day, you'll grow out of the school of thought that the only thing that matters is coasters.

Since Ouimet came along, I'm quite confident that Cedar Fair knows what they're doing in providing a premium family experience.

Are we forgetting KI? There's a coaster. That announcement filled up pages and pages here and there a few weeks ago...

Yeah, but it wasn't a coaster that WE wanted, so it doesn't count.

Yeah, but Mystic Timbers is not a shiny new B+M. Not counting the year of the WindSeekers in 2011, CedarFair has put in a new B+M (or Intamin back when they were in favor) in at least one of their parks every year since 2000. I was assuming that at least one of the CF parks was going to get a B+M coaster next year but with no current ground clearing seen and just about all of the parks already announcing it looks like Mystic Timbers is going to be Cedar Fair's "big" coaster for 2017.

What?! A park with one of the most complete coaster collections isn't getting a new coaster?

Kings Dominion has had, and continues to have, one of the largest, nicest and most thorough kids areas of any park I've been to. Adding to it might seem like overkill, but in my mind it's a big win, making an already great area even better. Sucks that they introduced the pre-K pass the year my youngest turned 6, but I'll live.

So, young Skywalker is now 6. Quickly grow, he will. :)
