Kiddieland in Melrose Park, Illinois may close after 2010 season

The park that boasts "we are about family because we are family" will likely close in 2010 because of a squabble between divided descendants of its founder. Grandchildren of the park's founder, who operate the park, are being sued by their mother and brother, who own and lease the land to them.

Sad news indeed. While I've never been there, I've heard a lot about the place and it's supposedly a very nice park.

It's a fun little place. Not the most thrilling coaster, but a woodie none the less and plenty of other rides, plus FREE SODA! The funny part is that there are "pay" soda vending machines as well :)

Plus they have a great collection of rides including a very enjoyable log flume and one of the best sets of Bumper Cars I have ever been on. (Yes, they are Lusse Bumper Cars - or a really close rendition of them)
A Herb Schmeck junior coaster in danger of becoming defunct?

Quick... somebody get Dick Knoebel on the phone! Time to start making arangements for his 2011 addition!

That would make for a nice addition to Knoebels. The high speed thrill coaster is a bit much for a kiddie coaster. :)

Not to mention a three abreast PTC carousel, but the circumstances sound all too familiar to me.

I have to admit, I'd be sad to see the place go. My father used to take me there when I was little, and over the years I've taken lots of the kids I've babysat to the park. I was looking forward to one day bringing my own children there. =(
At the way things are going with Santa's Village and Kiddieland, SFGAm may be the only park in the Chicago area soon.
What a shame. My father took me there,I took my 5 children--6 grandchildren--and great granddaughter there and looked forward to bringing any more that my arrive.
