KICentral adds more Diamondback construction photos

With over half of the ride structure erected, Diamondback, Kings Island's new 230-foot steel hypercoaster set to open in April, is now dominating the landscape. The first three hills have been completed and the most recent addition was an over-banked turn on the distant side of the ride.

What a sexy coaster! I'll be there on Press day with my camera and notepad!

Don and I were shocked at the angle of that overbanked turn when we saw it for the first time the other day. What you can't tell from the photos is that the land completely drops off at the edge of the coaster. You may get an incredible view straight down hill from that turn.

Without a doubt, the way this style of ride can shine is when it has sweet terrain. I think that's one of the reasons I always had such strong feelings for Apollo's Chariot, because the drops seem impossibly long for the height of the coaster. Now take this one, which is already well over 200 feet, and I can't even imagine what some of those later drops will feel like!

Wow, that looks majorly like it's going to be fun as hell. I'll have to agree about Apollo's Chariot - still probably my favorite of the B&M hypers. If DBack is anything like that, I'm going to really enjoy it.

I'll not make a judgement on the ride itself until I've ridden it. Living right next to the park almost the BIG THING that is changed at KI is the Skyline from all around the park. THREE BIG MOUNTAINS now top the trees and their visable from miles away in some cases expecially from the west.Chuck

AP was fantastic! It's layout was clever and tricky. The sudden and surprising last drop when you think that the ride is over, the way the train seems to drop from under you just before the turnaround. I like it better than any other B&M.

I really don't expect Dimondback to be better, but I don't really know until the first ride.

I'm going to write an article about Dimondback in the newspaper I work for. I'm taking some of my family with me to the park to take their pictures. I'll have some quotes from the locals in my county. I've never been this excited for a new ride to open since I was a kid.

Chuck, I can't wait to see the Kings Island skyline now that Dimondback is there. It sounds amazing!

^You have my participation anytime! You know that. ;)

I haven't been this excited about a ride at KI since Delirium. :) I will be in the Cincy area during New Years so I am going to check out as much as I can from afar. I just got a sleek new digital camera from Santa so I can't think of a better way to break it in! :)

Thanks, Tina. I'll at least get a quote from you.

Is there any way you could post the pics that you take? I'd love to see them.

^It will be very difficult to keep my quote PG rated, especially if the coaster blows me away! ;)

Whatever photos I get I will post them on my Pbase site. :)

I'll take her around to some areas most people don't know about to photograph and if she can upload them from here. She can. Note, all thse spots are public from roads. Chuck
