Kentucky Kingdom, Memorial Day Weekend 2024

We made a last-minute decision to make the 3-hour trek to check out this park since we have never been. Overall, I am impressed, but they do have plenty of room for expansion and growth, especially in the back of the park.

We were there all day on Saturday and part of the day on Sunday (before the storms).

Saturday started a little slow as most things were down because of the weather. So we went to Hurricane Bay, got a locker, and stashed our stuff. After a 30 min. or so wait, we got 2 rides on Stormchaser and I was super impressed and happy with this ride. I got one ride in the front and one ride in the back, I still can't decide which one was better. That barrel roll right off the bat is just phenomenal!!! Then we were off to Thunder Run for one ride on it. It was fun, but is showing its age. After a couple of small rides, we were off to the waterpark for a majority of the day since it was open for the first time this season. The waterpark is really good and way bigger than I originally thought.

After hours of sun and water, we were beaten, so we got some chicken fingers (average of course) and made our way over to Kentucky Flyer. Another fun ride, but way too short in my opinion. It does have good theming and looks like some fresh paint perhaps? A few more thrill rides like Skycatcher and Cyclos and we were pretty much done for the day since Lightning Run wasn't running at the time.

Sunday morning rolls around and we are there for rope drop to get on Lightning Run. Man, what another great coaster! Lots of airtime and sharp turns. This was my wife's favorite, I think it's great, but Stormchaser gets the edge for me. Two runs on it, then off to Stormchaser again for two rides on it. After all of that, we finally hit Roller Skater just to say we rode them all. A few more rides like Eye of the Storm and then the storms rolled in and we rolled out.

Overall, for the price of 2-day admission, this is a great deal especially if you like water parks. Like I said, there is lots of room for expansion and growth and I think that it could only get better. But the crowds worried me. It was Memorial Day weekend and nothing was more than a 10-minute wait except for the first day when we had to wait on weather and the terrible wait for Tin Lizzy's since every single kid had to drive their own car and only 3 cars were on the track that day.
