I'm thinking about making a day trip down to Kentucky Kingdom soon (never been), and I noticed tickets are the cheapest of the year ($30) 8/19, 8/20, and 8/26. Perfect! Probably not very crowded too! Then I discovered those are the same dates as the state fair.
So... is it heavily discounted because everyone is at the fair and they're trying to get people in the park? Or does the park become crowded as it draws a lot of people to the area?
I did Kentucky kingdom once during the fair, and it was great. The crowd was small, and all of the rides were walk on. Drinks were free. There was a woman that was pitching a fit at the ticket booth because she and her entire family were standing there with their beach gear, and the waterpark did not operate during that time. So be advised, there is no water park.
Check for hours also, when I went, it was late afternoon through evening only.
The fair has its own separate carnival midway that is nearby, and the fair is interesting. Most of it is indoors in one long, continuous hall. The food is typical of state fair fare. So if you’re going to be there, you may as well make a day if it.
Disclaimer- All of this is anecdotal as it’s been a few years since I did this. But I think things are still pretty much the same.
Thanks for the feedback, I appreciate it!
Doing some searching, I discovered a promo back in 2016, when you could buy KK tickets at Kroger for $10 and the park had free drinks. That's crazy!
The park will have fairly regular hours (11:00 - 7:00) and the water park will be open. Looks like there's a heat wave coming though so... we'll see how that pans out before we make the drive down.
