Kentucky again seeks RFP's for operation of Kentucky Kingdom

State government is looking for developers interested in operating a theme park at the Kentucky Exposition Center. A “request for proposals” was issued Monday by the Kentucky Finance and Administration Cabinet on behalf of the Kentucky State Fair Board, which oversees the state-owned fairgrounds in Louisville where the former Kentucky Kingdom amusement park has sat shuttered since 2009.

If I were interested in operating an amusement park, I think the Kentucky State Fair Board would be pretty near the bottom of the list of organizations I'd want to work with to make that happen.

It's a crappy deal for anyone. The state wants you to put up the money and the risk, but not own anything, and they want to micromanage your the cap ex you won't own. And those rides are a mess, bordering on non-usable.

I think they may have even burned their last bridge with Ed Hart...and the political climate isn't really conducive to the State putting up millions just to find ouyt whether the park can be rescued...

I think Ed Hart is too stubborn, or his ego too large, to walk away from it and acknowledge it's a bad idea.
