Kennywood/Cedar Point trip help

I'm planning on going to Kennywood and Cedar Point for the first time in may and thought I'd like to get a couple of suggestions from some guys in the in the know.

Tenatively we are scheduled to fly into Pittsburgh on May 13th and hit Kennywood on the 14th,take a day off to drive to Sandusky and go to Cedar Point on the 16th and 17th.

My girlfriend booked the trip and I realized that the 14th is opening day at Kennywood and thats my concern. I went to Hershey on opening day last year and the park was horribly understaffed and all coasters were one train operation. Most of the coaster crews appeared to be maintenance workers and they moved the trains slower than anything I had ever seen.

This created annoyingly long wait times for a very uncrowded park and pretty much ruined the point of going(we wanted to go early season on one of the "prime" pre summer weekdays and enjoy the light crowds and shorter lines).

My question is, does Kennywood typically run their parks in the same fashion? I'm thinking the better thing to do would to be to push the trip back a couple of days and hit up kennywood on monday the 19th and then go to cedar point on the 21st and 22nd? This would also have us avoid going to Cedar Point on a friday and Saturday

I know there is no magic crystal ball to predict crowds but does Cedar Point "typically" have lighter crowds on the weekdays pre summer? My home parks of BGW and Kings Dominion certainly do and make sure to take advantage of it.

I just want to make sure we get the most out of our time in these paaks and would appreciate all the input I could get!

The park is not crowded during the week in May at CP. That is a great time to go. Not understaffed and light crowds. *** Edited 2/2/2008 5:22:22 PM UTC by Parker17***

RIDE ON!

Actually, Cedar Point is understaffed then, but they won't run one train op (unless it's raining ;)). I can't remember if they have ride prides at the beginning of the season though.
Kennywood usually schedules almost all of their employees to work the first weekend, so if anything, it'll be overstaffed.
Keep your original schedule. Weather permitting, you should do just fine at both parks.
