Kennywood Park announced on social media Tuesday that it is retiring four of its rides: Kangaroo, Paratrooper, Bayern Kurve and Volcano.

Not all that long someone in management there actually tried to get rid of Heinz ketchup at a small park in Pittsburgh not knowing the territory. Easily correctable.

The kangaroo is pretty historically significant in a demographic area that loves its nostalgia and as others point out can’t be that complicated a ride.

My only thought on the curve is that it has come and gone multiple times here.

They did just get a new GM. What gives?

As a matter of fact, yes they did get a new GM there https://pittsburgh.cbslocal.com/2020/08/13/new-kennywood-general-manager/

In addition, Palace recently just moved their corporate offices to the Pittsburgh area from Southern CA. Culture shock time......

Palace (and even their corporate overlord, Parques Reuinidos) has had a complete overhaul of management over the last year. Mark Pauls was the president of Sea World Orlando. Palace's new COO, John Reilly, was formerly the COO of Sea World Parks & Entertainment. They definitely have people in place who know how to operate parks, but Sea World parks aren't exactly known for their historic value.

Parques has been in a state of upheaval for a couple years as well. They have had 3 CEOs in as many years, the latest coming from a holiday resort (not theme park-related) company two months ago. Parques was bought out a year ago by EQT, a Swedish investment firm that doesn't seem to have any prior experience in the leisure field and has investments in companies across seemingly every type of industry known to man.

With that said, everything I've been hearing suggests this is a mandate from Parques who wants modern rides with modern safety standards.

That you have folks coming from the SeaWorld parks coming in to be in charge of things like park operations and ride capacity, everything about the terrible operations at Kennywood makes total sense.

Ain't that the truth.....
