Kennywood threatens to legal action against West Mifflin

Gotta love politics in Western PA! I'll bet there is some boro politicos that are sweating bullets tonight.

Kennywood is calling a huge poker bluff here, but I bet they at least have a high full house. They are the media darlings for the region, and they always do their homework.

West Mifflin will lose, basically they cannot talk themselves out of it in County Court. They do not have $3 million dollars. This decision will benefit all parks in Pennsylvania. Good for them.

Rock on Kennywood. Been waiting for this move for a while ...

Sounds like a Pennsylvania municipality... faced with a continued decline in jobs, instead of creating a job friendly market, they'd rather try to suck whatever blood they can out of the remaining businesses.

PA ranks 47th in job growth for the past 10-20 years.
Doesn't take a PhD in math to figure out the correlation there.

So just what did the borough do with the 4.3 million they collected over the past 6 years? Sure as hell didn't appear to be used for beautification or redevelopment from what I saw.

They used it on their salaries and stuff for their offices. I live in West Mifflin, and I am also glad that KW decided to call on WM to get off their butt and stop making them pay HUGE amounts in amusement tax.

I know I have to pay a ton of taxes each year. As well with the property tax assesments that have been put upon homeowners all over the county. Every appeal has to be paid for from the county, and so West Mifflin, is paying a bit of that as well.

Honestly, I would love to know where the hell all that money goes to each year. KW pays hundred's of thousands of dollars for what? To have KW bring tourism into the area? What a crock. I hope KW get's all their money back.

P.S. West Mifflin, PAVE YOUR DAMN ROADS AGAIN! It's breaking my car!

I'd assume that this amusement tax Kennywood is paying is in addition to property and other taxes. The amount seems to fluctuate quite a bit year by year, so I don't know how the amount to be paid is determined.

This is just so typical Pennsylvania. Find a business that is actually a success and latch on to them like a tapeworm and suck everything you can out of them. Then turn around and give loads of money to some screwball project that doesn't have a prayer.

Let me guess, the locals complain about traffic, noise and dust too, right?

Well not really, if you know where KW is, there are some homes, that I have known that are park employees. But other then that homes, are a bit farther away. We just have crappy paving. They don't know how to do a good job, so they do it EVERY year. Traffic in the area yes is a little much. KW is on a 2 lane road, so when there is traffic, OY! It's just as bad if not worse then the Waterfront attractions (I.E. Where Sandcastle is).

So in the end, the borough who was stupid in the first place is gonna be out more money. Hmmmmm, maybe I should go ***** the mayor. That'll be swell! I have a beef with him anyway, he should hear me. He is who I didn't elect, so well, you know what I mean.
