Kennywood Racer Reopens

Not sure quite where to put this one. Seems that Racer was shutdown due to the appearance sissues. https://www.wpxi.com/news/l...26IUQLRZY/

I like how the top of bricks appear to have been painted.

Wait until they find out what Exterminator is sitting on top of (assuming it’s like other installments of the same model.)

Yeah they finally came to the determination that the photo was of a maintenance catwalk that had nothing to do with the support of the coaster structure.....

I'm still not sure why they closed the ride for the day other than to give the perception to the public that they had "done something" after the news media made something out of nothing.

It's kind of a no-win situation. You either try to explain to the GP that it's OK for part of a ride to be sitting on cinder blocks or cover it up. I would have tried the former but I respect their decision... sometimes presentation is everything.

Has anyone seen what carnival rides sit on to be level? Sheesh. People seriously need to chill.

Back in the day at Cedar Point, both the Jumbo Jet and the Wildcat sat on wooden blocks.

Their brand new Wild Mouse sits on wood blocks. :)

Well, wood blocks are much better at supporting weight than cinder blocks.* The Racer's structure is made out of wood! If that cinder block had been holding up something critical, it might have been bad. But it wasn't.

*All sorts of caveats, etc.

I do give credit to the employee who saw the issue and put something in place to fill the gap.

The cinder blocks in the picture looked like they had been there a pretty long time so it was probably like that every time I've ever ridden Racer. When I was there last week I noticed they replaced the cinder blocks with a concrete footer.

Gosh I love The Racer, no matter what it's held up by. Such a smooth and surprisingly forceful ride. I've got a copy of the prints somewhere, Amusement Park Journal (for anyone that's been around for that long) sold copies of them back in the 80s.

Sure wish I could have ridden in the old trains, before the PTCs. But it runs good either way.

I was just at Kennywood a couple weekends ago, rode all the coasters except the Skyrocket which wasn't open for a fair amount of the day. For a 98 year old ride the Racer still has plenty of "omph" to it. I grew up in Western PA and rode the Vettel trains that were on it during the 1950's on until the arrival of the PTC trains with their miserable seat dividers.
