Kennywood question???

ROFL....as I was waiting for the page to load, I was thinking to myself "wouldn't it be hysterical if this thread is about KWood's closing time"...

Good times! :)

And yes, Pittsburgh roads are....less-than-desirable, navigation-wise..."you'll go over a bridge and see three exits, take the middle one"....WHAT??!?? ;)

You still have Zoidberg.... You ALL have Zoidberg! (V) (;,,;) (V)

But I was right, wasn't I Bill?! LOL Gotta love driving in the Burgh! Hey I didn't build the damn roads, I just live here!

Oh the MIDDLE exit.....see I am still confused. ;-) That's the one of three exits that bear off to the right before you go to the "sorta right" but not the "straight right". LOL!

Greg,

I am used to the Swissvale exit but I have taken that route as well (I think). ;-)

I've actually stayed at the Comfort Inn (2 years in a row now) that CoastinKatie mentions on Lebanon Church Road, and they have an indoor pool. There are tons of restaurants and food stores in the area too which makes life a lot easier. Plus the CI has has package deals that include KW tix that might work for you.

A group of my friends and I are making a trip to Kennywood soon, are there any good downtown places to eat? Cost wise we arent looking for 5-star but are willing to pay if the the food is worth it, any suggestions would be great.

I don't recommend the Denny's (at least on weekend mornings) in that exact area (West Mifflin) unless you don't mind waiting forever to be seated (or never at all).

I have been meaning to try the Primanti Bros. forever but I will let the locals comment on that (as well as suggestions on where to eat).

There is 11 which is on the edge of downtown, Mad Mex in Oakland, Cheescake Factory and Hot Metal Grill in the South Side Works. My suggestion would be The Church Brew Works on Liberty, you can get there from downtown.

But your best bet is to go to the Waterfront down the road from Kennywood and eat at Rock Bottom, not unique but really good. My favorite beer in Pittsburgh.

The sad part is I've actually had a chance to contribute to laying out the road system in Pittsburgh over the past year and I've probably made it worse ;) You're welcome for all that traffic at the Parkway West/I-79 interchange, but it'll all be worth it when you can go north on I-79 from the inbound Parkway West.

Another wonderful Pittsburgh road-ism, and my personal favorite ... if you're coming from Ohio, take the Parkway West East into the city, then get on the Parkway East going West until you get to Squirril Hill. Of course, if you're coming from East PA, take Parkway East West until you get through the Squirril Hill tunnels. And if you don't know what the Parkway East and Parkway West are, then why the f are you driving in Pittsburgh? ;)

Even though we have our arguments from time to time, the people on this site are truly the best.

Thanks for all of your help. I will book after dinner.

Eleven. Just on the edge of "downtown", and worth every penny and then some.

Also recommended, The Church Brew Works, Mitchell's Fish Market (especially good if you're staying at the Courtyard at the Waterfront, since it's within walking distance), and perhaps Fathead's if you're in the mood for beer and wings (best wings in the city IMHO).

God I forgot about Fatheads, they have THE best wings! SOooooo good! The fish market in the waterfront is good as well as the cafe right near Loew's theater.

The brewery is good as well. And def Eleven. If you have never been there it is worth the money and drive.

The Church Brew Works seriously has the best pizza I have ever had. I can't think of a better slice. *** Edited 7/19/2005 12:30:40 AM UTC by eightdotthree***

Just wondering, eightdotthree, what's your name in reference to?
If you like hot wings, start with Fathead's Volcano or higher, then move to Quaker Steak and try out Suicide or Atomic. Personally I think Quaker Steak has better milder wings, but Fathead's hot ones are better.

You guys are really testin' this guy's navigational abilities by reccommending Church Brew Works! Hell I still get lost finding the place sometimes! And the parking ....

I know tastes vary, but I think Quaker Steak is just nasty. Then again, I tend to like hotter foods anyway. Fathead's Spicy Parm wings are a good "mild" level for me :)

Um, getting back to Kennywood, they have buffalo chicken fingers at the Small Fry stand -- last time I was able to order them (I've learned I'm allergic to wheat, which eliminates breaded foods) they were pretty good, if a bit on the vinegary side.

I'm not 8.3, but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night. Back in the olden days of computers, filenames had to be in 8.3 format, file + extension (file type). Thank goodness for DOS 12-step *programs*...LOL!

Thanks, now I feel old....again! ;)

It's not the interstates (I-79/376/279) that are frustrating, it's the residential/secondary roads/streets. ;-)

I love chicken wings, but I can't do anything beyond mild (although I like spicey). Anything that overpowers the taste is WAY too much. ;-) I will keep those places in mind the next time I am in the Burgh, though.

Oh Baby Patch at KW had awesome chicken strips!

well now the park has a new rule, they will no longer close before 10:00pm. I have no idea why they changed it, i hate that rule. As a guest i would like that rule cause more time to ride. But as an employee, i was so use to estimating the closing time when there was hardly anyone in the park. I get so mad when all the rides are walk ons and we close at 10 when usually we would close at 9 or 9:30. but i don't think they will ever go pass 11:00pm. I've heard they have done it once last year but i don't know if that is true.

And there are always discounts. You just have to know where to find them.

I think you just answered your own question, PGH_Steeler. Guests don't like coming to the park in the middle of the summer and finding out that it will be closing at 9, when every other theme park stays open later regardless of crowd conditions.

rollergator has it right, I needed a name for my website years ago and this is what I came up with based on the DOS naming convention.
