Am I understanding correctly that one must not only pay for admission but also pay for each ride?

When I went there, all you had to pay is a $20.00 (I think) admission fee. Maybe they have a pay-per-ride ticket option where you have to pay a small price, but I don't know?
You have a choice. You can pay $7.50 "general admission" and then use tickets per ride (sometimes a better deal if you're only there for a few rides, or it's a really busy day), or you can get a Ride-All-Day for $18.95 (weekday) or $22.95 (weekend) which gives you unlimited access to all rides except Skycoaster and the paddleboats (if I'm remembering correctly).
