Kennywood needs a ferris wheel.

This say be a silly topic but I think Kennywood needs a ferris wheel ride of some kind. I know they had the Wonder Wheel until about 10 years ago. Maybe the could put in a wheel in the lost kennywood section. Maybe a Sky Wheel. That would be heaven. But seriously I would be happy with a simple 60 foot Eli Bridge wheel

SFGAm could use one too.

They used to have your basic carnival wheel back in the 80's which is gone, and then they lost Sky Whirl (Intamin 3-arm wheel) after the 2000 season.

My favorite MJ tune: "Billie Jean" which I have been listening to alot now. RIP MJ.

Throw Kings Island in the mix! I think a ferris wheel would be great near the back of Coney Mall, perhaps where Flight Commander used to be.

I call Cedar Point my home park even though I live in the Chicago Suburbs.

Dvo, you mean back where the double wheel used to be by the giant slide? http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2469/3731719013_14a3a96c66.jpg

I think there are a few things every park needs(besides the coasters).

1, ferris wheel.

2, merry go round.

3, bumper cars.

4, log flume ride.

what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard.
Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it.
I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

At CP #4 should be log flume ride/aquatrax ;)

You probably said that just to irk me, Audioslaved. :)

There are a few kinds of rides that a park needs to seem complete, imho.

That's how we irk you?

Aquatrax! Aquatrax! Aquatrax! Aquatrax! Aquatrax! Aquatrax! Aquatrax! Aquatrax! Aquatrax!

;)

I also consider a drop tower to be a standard for a park now (Knoebels, are you listening?).

As for Kennywood, they should definitely have a wheel. After all, it's near the hometown of the builder of the first big one (GWG Ferris). With the increase in thrill rides, the park could use a couple of additional family friendly rides and this could be one of them.

Um... if memory serves me right, Kennywood did have a wheel, it was located where the Aero 360 is presently. It was a larger gondola wheel, and I would say that until Knoebels giant wheel, it was the tallest in PA.

As for parks getting wheels, I think we have seen the time for giant wheels pass. Granted Kings Dominion just added Americana Wheel, but that was more to say two new rides for the park in one season. Speaking with a friend who used to run the Giant Wheel at Dorney they seem to be a very large investment, but quite problematic if you don't have an experienced crew. Add in new restrictions from certain manufacturers, park operating procedures changing the terms of "incliment weather"... it just seems that the wheel has had its hay-day.

Real men ride wood... coasters that is!

I can't agree with that.

Every park that I have been to that has a wheel, it has a line. It's also a great way to see the park from the top.

It's also a good ride for people that do not like the big thrill rides and for families.

I think Ferris Wheels scare me the most out of any other ride at a park, but thats probably due to my fear of heights...

Thrn I guess Canobie would be a complete park in your eyes.

It has bumper cars, a big ferris wheel, a classic carousel, a good log flume, AND a couple of coasters.

LONG LIVE THE YANKEE CANNONBALL!

Kennywood had a ferris wheel. Nobody rode it. It was removed. Why would they add a ride if no one cared about it the last time they had one?

HAHA, Moosh. I said that because of my stance that Cedar Point promised that they would replace White Water Landing, and now it seems that they are going to replace it with an Aquatrax, which I don't consider to be a traditional log flume.

...WAY off topic.

On topic, yes, KW had a large Ferris Wheel that was replaced bt Aero 360. It was so much fun to ride at night, when the park was clearing out. It had a awesome lighting package. I really loved that ride.

Aero 360 is a cool ride too.

Edit - kbjp, it always seemed to have a line when I was there. I wasn't there every day though. Maybe they should build a smaller wheel.

Its kind of funny this topic poped up. I just took my wife to Kennywood for her first time a couple of weeks ago. As we were leaving, she says 'They didn't have ferris wheel, thats kind of strange.'

The fact that Kings Dominion even has a ferris wheel is actually quite ironic considering that back in the 70s and for many many years afterward, KD actually bragged about NOT having a ferris wheel. I still can remember whatching some bigshot from KD on Virginia TV back in the 80's after he was asked by the reporter "why not a ferris wheel for Kings Dominion?" only to get the reply "..we don't do them..you can find such things at carnivals and county fairs !!".

Come to think of it when the old Roanoke, VA area Lakeside Park had closed in 1986, at the time their ferris wheel was the tallest in Virginia. I believe Lakeside had actually offered the ride to Kings Dominion FOR FREE..still though Kings Dominion said NO.

Looking back now..it is very interesting that Kings Dominion has a ferris wheel now considering they were against them for so long.

That's not what I'm hearing, LK.

Really, Moosh? What are you hearing, by the way?

I don't remember the wonder wheel ever having much of a line either.
