Kennywood may reopen today after storm damage

Kennywood announced that they may reopen today following Friday night's storms that caused the Whip roof to collapse, killing one woman and injuring more than 50 others. Kennywood will reopen with most rides open except for The Whip, Noah's Ark, Paratrooper, Old Mill, Log Jammer, Raging Rapids and Pittsburg Plunge.

This is so sad, it really is. The article was depressing just in the work needed to get back on their feet.

There's nothing like a woodie...

I hope they can get the Noah's Ark back together, after Frontierland demolished theirs in 2000, there's only that one and Blackpools' left.

:)KENNYWOOD:)

I hope they get back on their feetsThe faster the better cause it really is a great park!!!
I just got back from the park and to tell you the truth, just about everything looked fine. The Whip itself was in pretty good condition, makes me wonder if they'll reopen it without the building or wait until it's rebuilt. The Paratroopr was completely stripped down, with only the basic structure remaining. The park looked a lot better than I expected, I'm glad to see it open again.

That's really great to hear. I saw a story on the news today and the park looked pretty good. Rich Henry described the park as a "newer, sunnier Kennywood" without the trees in some parts of the park.

All-in-all, they seem to have rebounded quite nicely. Only two rides have been forced to close because of the storm...the Kangaroo already had been closed prior to the storm.

The Pittsburgh Tribune Review's website has some photos from Kennywood's re-opening day. There is one photo fo the Whip, and it appears they have already taken the roof away and are working on getting the ride up and running again. I wonder if they will run the Whip without a roof (like Idlewild's) or take it apart and store the cars until a new roof is built.
