Kennywood: Lots o' Changes for 2005

Depends how badly you need to go.

Oh, another thing I forgot:

Kennywood has always had a no rainchecks policy. This is no longer the case.

If it rains hard enough to close down the majority of rides for more than two consecutive hours, you get in free the next time you come.

It's a nice way to get people in the park on not-so-good forecast days. Really, if you get a few good hours in with no crowds, it's like a 2-for-1 pass.

Yeah, like anyone would wanna go BACK to Kennywood...;)

P.S. This will by my 4th time there in the past 5 years come Memorial Day weekend, LOL...Three(!) classic wooden coasters in ONE park, that's just an embarrassment of riches, and the other stuff is just LOADS of....mmmmm, GRAVY!

So this year, ride ops won't have any wristbands to check and can inform angry guests of a raincheck policy. Sounds awesome.

Now, why wasn't this in place when I worked there? ;)

Yup no more wristbands. I can't wait for the season to start. *** Edited 4/16/2005 9:39:36 PM UTC by PGH_Steeler***
Unfortunatley it will probably rain every day once they open for the season, because it has been too nice recentley. The no wristband thing will be kind of weird but all in all things seem pretty good to me.
don't jinks us tservo lol.

They have bathrooms in the group sales offices next door. Please explain what 'quite a distance' means.

Sorry, but I don't have any blueprints. I found my notes from the presentation, and according to my notes Mary Lou Rosemeyer (PR director for the park, I believe) said it cost "millions to pump water up the mountain".

She may have exaggerated, or she may be talking about a different area than you mention with the group sales offices, or maybe the existing water lines don't support the volume needed for public restrooms. She did say she had to use an outhouse for 3 months because of the construction, and I seem to remember she said her office was being completely moved?

I've only been to Kennywood once, 3 years ago, and I didn't pay much attention to the entrance, as I was too mesmerized by the rides and atmosphere.

Maybe someone else remembers more details from her presentation?

Yeah, the sewage lines had to be upgraded to handle the GP's poo. ML's office is now a hallway, but she got a bigger one out of the deal. The "outhouse" was a heated restroom with running water. Not exactly a wooden seat with a hole dug beneath it.

Hi

If Kennywood has always had a no-raincheck policy, how come I got a raincheck for coming on a really nasty day a few years ago? :)

(Yes, it was a special circumstance. KennyCon got washed out, and every person in the park got a return pass when exiting when the park closed early. That's the key: the park closed early.)

It was REAL early as I recall, Dave, about 5:00 PM. They had gotten forecasts of severe thunderstorms hitting the area latter that day. Turns out they didn't manifest themselves untill later that night.

Something about that line just had me envisioning Mr. Hankey in his role as Sorcerer's Apprentice during the South Park Film Festival...good times! :)
