Kennywood is Massive Advertising?

Hello Coaster Fans Who Are Trying To Dry Out From This Past Rainny Weekend,

I have noticed over this past weekend, billboards popping up all over NE Ohio for Kennywood. I just noticed 4 alone in the Akron and Cuyahoga Falls area. I have lived about 8 years in this area and have never noticed or do I think that Kennywood has ever advertised this far West of their park. The billboards say "America's Best Amusement Park" and "Just a Short Drive Away" It has a picture of Thunderbolt going down it's hill from right to left, and a blue sky background. I thought that was pretty "Gutsy" since most people accept either GL or CP as being the park to visit. Heck, most people in this are don't even know of Kennywood (though they are finding out now.) Anyone else notice these billboards?

Sorry, I havent even seen a billboard yet. Only Television commercials
Well, they aren't going to advertise themselves as "America's Mediocre Amusement Park", are they?
Did you bother checking your title when you posted it? It makes no sense at all. Now, had you written "Kennywood is massively advertising in NE Ohio", that would've made sense. Anyway, nice to see that they're expanding their horizons. I totally agree that it's a great park, and hope to return this year.

Are you sure it's Thunderbolt and not Jackrabbit?

These billboards should be popping up in the Columbus area too.

We dont get those ads in Pittsburgh. We get much simpler ads.

I am pretty sure they hired a new ad agency to drive new traffic into the park, so I would imagine this is their response.

That sounds awsome. I live way to far away, but knowing how great a Park KW is, its great to see them advirtising more. Its totally worth the drive from wherever they might be advirtising.

Quick question for those that have happened to catch these billboards in Ohio.

Is this the picture being used?

Last I heard, the ad agency was presenting the design to KW. I wasn't sure if they went ahead with it or not, but the description of the billboard sure sounds like it.

You know, I think that might be the picture, if so, then it's the Jackrabbit and not the Thunderbolt...I'll have to check on it, but I'm pretty sure, it's pretty close to it. *** Edited 5/5/2004 2:55:29 PM UTC by RollerCoasterGod***

Anyone else notice that the Kennywood owned water park, Sandcastle, as well as Idlewild Park are offering season passes this year. Perhaps if this goes well they will offer them for Kennywood in the future.

Thanks, RollerCoasterGod.

They approached me a while back about using it. I never got definite word whether or not it was used in the final design. Looks like it was.

Now I have to go out and see one of my pics at billboard size :)

Gonch, that's absolutely awesome that you got your picture used! I'm gonna have to start my own cool-guy site so I can join in the fun ;)

I hadn't heard about Sandcastle and Idlewild doing seasons - that's awsome! I did hear the rumor that they're going to move Sandcastle down behind Kennywood though and sell the land back to the Waterfront for a small fortune ;)

If this is your photo, had you given them permission to use it?

Thanks, Brett! That makes a KW billboard and the cool default image at the Raptor onride photo booth. :)

jdancisin - yeah, it's all legit and I was compensated for the photo. It was just the last I had heard it wasn't a guaranteed 100% that it would be my photo on the billboard. The original description sounded a lot like the mock up I saw, so I figured I'd ask.

Now I need to go find one of these billboards and take a picture ;)
