I have noticed over this past weekend, billboards popping up all over NE Ohio for Kennywood. I just noticed 4 alone in the Akron and Cuyahoga Falls area. I have lived about 8 years in this area and have never noticed or do I think that Kennywood has ever advertised this far West of their park. The billboards say "America's Best Amusement Park" and "Just a Short Drive Away" It has a picture of Thunderbolt going down it's hill from right to left, and a blue sky background. I thought that was pretty "Gutsy" since most people accept either GL or CP as being the park to visit. Heck, most people in this are don't even know of Kennywood (though they are finding out now.) Anyone else notice these billboards?
These billboards should be popping up in the Columbus area too.
I am pretty sure they hired a new ad agency to drive new traffic into the park, so I would imagine this is their response.
Is this the picture being used?
Last I heard, the ad agency was presenting the design to KW. I wasn't sure if they went ahead with it or not, but the description of the billboard sure sounds like it.
They approached me a while back about using it. I never got definite word whether or not it was used in the final design. Looks like it was.
Now I have to go out and see one of my pics at billboard size :)
I hadn't heard about Sandcastle and Idlewild doing seasons - that's awsome! I did hear the rumor that they're going to move Sandcastle down behind Kennywood though and sell the land back to the Waterfront for a small fortune ;)
jdancisin - yeah, it's all legit and I was compensated for the photo. It was just the last I had heard it wasn't a guaranteed 100% that it would be my photo on the billboard. The original description sounded a lot like the mock up I saw, so I figured I'd ask.
Now I need to go find one of these billboards and take a picture ;)
