Kennywood confirms extended season for 2002

Posted | Contributed by GregLeg

Kennywood has posted their 2002 calendar on their site and as previously rumored, they will be open after Labor Day. This includes an apparently Halloween-themed event called "Phantom Fright Nights," which will run Friday and Saturday nights starting Friday, September 13th through Saturday, October 19th.

Well...looks like I'll be visiting the family in Pittsburgh sometime this fall.
Does anyone else see an "unofficial pre-PPP day" at Kennywood coming up? :)

The Jokes on You!! Ha Ha Ha
Greg - That's what I was thinking.
Anyone heard anything if Michigans Adventure is going to extend their season since CF now owns it?

"The Peoples Elbow" or "The Spinaroonie?. Cant decide which is the most electrifying move in sports entertainment!!! LOL
Chitown - I think the one on their site is pretty much it for the year, which I believe is a little longer than last year (but I may be wrong).  Based on how sparse the crowds are at the beginning and end of the season (and even the middle of July, for that matter), I wouldn't imagine they would extend it too much.

"Ooh, baby I like it raw..." O.D.B.
man, im gonna be in Pittsburgh day after Christmas....i wish kennywood was open!!  even though its gonna be freakin cold.  but im goin there for a wedding in July, so ill squeeze it in.  also, fellow buzzers, the groom, my best friend, wants to also hit Cedar Point while im there, which ive never been to....so rest assured, in late july there will be a VERY LONG trip report about my first pilgrimage to the Point....ahhh, im salivating thinking about it now...i have totally gone off the subject...sorry mod's, hehe :)  GO KENNYWOOD!! :)

ROLLERCOASTERS....BETTER THAN OXYGEN BABY!!!!!!
It will be perfect too, since folks around Ohio can do Kenny on Friday, Knoebels on Sat, and Lakemont on Sun (providing they all share the same weekend). This is gonna be great! I wonder if they will let us wear costumes!

DON'T....LOOK....BACK! The Headless Horseman awaits you in 2002!

That's exactly what I was thinking.   PPP is always the first Saturday of October, isn't it?  In this case, that'd be Saturday October 5th, 2002.  There's definitely a Phantom Fright Night listed for October 4th, and Lakemont's RideFest is traditionally the day after PPP.  What a combo....

People making an annual flight into the area for PPP should be happy, too.  Kennywood could be facing a pretty big crowd of enthusiasts on the 4th.

They'll be open a few more weekends (until Sept. 14), but that's about it.  You really can't expect more of a park that's more waterpark than anything else.

I can't seem to link you directly to the calendar, but this should get you close...

This is excellent news.  So often I have been driving by Kennywood on weekends in late Sept. and Oct. (our weather is usually very good) and thinking " I wish Kennywood were open today", and now it will be :)  With our foliage, it should be very beautiful.  I can't wait.
Welcome to the 21st Century Kennywood . . . Now how about a hanging or looping coaster . . . .

Not All Coasters are Created Equally
Along with the hanging and looping coaster, it would be nice to see the park offer season passes as well.  Perhaps for 2003!
I highly doubt we'll ever see season passes at Kennywood, for a very good reason.  The park doesn't want to become the unofficial Youth Center for the City of Pittsburgh, which is what would happen.  It's the same reason they don't sell the General Admission tickets to minors.
