Kennywood Advice

I disagree with 8.3, do not skip the flume. It is unique in that after the first drop, it glides back uphill like a coaster.

+danny is right, try Exterminator at least once. It's more like a darkride than an all out coaster.

Impulse-ive gave you the best advise, imho. Relax...Kennywood is not a huge megapark. The park is small enough that everything can be done in less than half of a day, and the second half of the day can be for re-rides. At the end of the day, you won't want to go home though, because Kennywood is so much fun. :)

^^ Shows the last time I walked to that part of the park. The rotor used to be the only thing I really went over there for.

I think I remember it being gone now.

Besides that one element it is one of the worst flumes around imo. It rolls around the course, thumping into the walls and the big drop is bumpy as heck.

Don't feel bad, I miss that ride too. :-(

The only reason I walk up that way is a short-cut to PR's queue line. :-)

I respect your opinion, 8.3.

^Yeah, everything that they said and then some!

Ahhh, what I wouldn't do for some of those chicken strips and PP fries right now (even if it's 6:30 in the morning. ;-))

Being *somewhat* of a local (4 hours is local to me....lol) I can never rave about Kennywood enough. Just read my responses to the other 2000 Kennywood threads. ;-)

Beast Fan, I DO suggest you ride King Kahuna. You won't get wet at all. Really. Trust me. I wouldn't lie. ;-)

Bottom line is you will fall in love with everything the park has to offer. Yeah, it's ALL that and a side of gravy (which you HAVE to try with your fries just for the hell of it).

The lines for our most popular coasters Thunderbolt & Phantom's Revenge, should never be more than a 30 min wait. I know that on the Thunderbolt(since I now work on that crew), we put 2 trains on when our queue in front of the sign reaches 2/3 rows. If we would put 2 trains on before that it would make the line too short and we would be forced to have the trains sit in the station until they are filled, thus making your wait about the same time. A good time to catch a night ride on the Thunderbolt with little wait is after the Raging Rapids has closed for the night, which is around 8/9 daily depending on closing time and crowds.

I haven't ever worked on the Phantom crew but I would expect that when the line reaches the end of the ramp, that they would add another train to the track.

The Exterminator is one of the most unique rides ever built - yes I know it's a standard spinning mouse, but the effects are well worth the wait. The thing about this ride queue is that it starts outside and once you get inside you think your done but theres 6-8 more queue lines to wait in. It moves pretty fast, but it's a favorite of alot of people so there will still be a wait of around 45 min to an hour on busy days. I know a friend from my old Turnpike/Garfields Nightmare crew that got a transferr to that ride yesterday, I'll ask her how the lines are during different days and get back to you on that.

I would try to get in the following rides - Turnpike, Garfields Nightmare(Old Mill), Flying Carpet, Kangaroo, Paratrooper, Jack Rabbit, Racer, Aero360, Jog Jammer, Swing Around, Carousal, Pitt Fall, Pittsburg Plunge, Whip, Wave Swinger, Grand Prix, Whipeout, Gold Rusher, Music Express, Phantom's Revenge, Thunderbolt, Turtle, Noah's Ark, King Kahuna, Volcano, Pirate, Raging Rapids, Olde Kennywood Railroad, Auto Race, Skycoaster(extra fee, but well worth it), Paddle Boats(also extra charge), Exterminator. I think I just listed all the rides, but there all worth riding.

As far as admission goes I may be able to help you offset some of the cost there. Just drop me an e-mail with the dates that your attending the park as well as the number of people going to cstrdude86@comcast.net and I'll see what I can do for you.

Hope this helps!

Although I miss the Old Mill, I think Garfield's Nightmare is hilarious.

Every time I have been to Kennywood (on very busy an not-so-busy days) the Racer has ALWAYS had a considerable line, at least 30-45 minutes. From what I have experienced the Phantom's line doesn't really get too crowded until the nightime.

Jack Rabbitt's is usually 20-25. I have waited for Exterminator for an hour tops.

And yes, you HAVE to do Pittfall, my favorite *2nd gen* Intamin drop next to the one at Great America.

And yes, the Kangaroo has a nice little kick of airtime. Very cool ride. :-)
