KennyWood Advertising streches far and wide

I heard (I didn't see it because I was in a different room at the time)the KW commercial here in Baltimore this morning also...I asked my fiance if I heard what I thought I heard and she said yes...I was shocked. They have never advertised here. I am sure they are just testing the waters here. It makes a little sense because people are driving a little further (rather than flying) these days for their vacations...since no one around here really knows KW, it seems to make sense to me...the only thing that I don't understand is why they waited this long into the season to start advertising here.

Happy Coastering!

I remember seeing comercials for BGW when I was younger, and I live in Toledo!

CMM: Honestly, I had the sound turned down a bit through the majority of the ad, but I didnt catch anything that seemed "sappy".

And PittD, I personally *have* been to KennyWood and while I absolutely LOVED Phantom's Revenge, the park as a whole didnt *grab* me. At the very least, I feel that an average B-more area person that would be impressed by KennyWood's so called 'charm' would be equally impressed by HersheyPark, which you'd have to practically drive right past to get to KennyWood.

But I'll admitt, Phantom's Revenge alone is reason enough for me to get back there sometime soon. Hopefully they will run two trains and Thunderbolt will actually be open this time.

And while the ohio parks may have the mid-atlantic area beat in "superlatives" as far as thrills, they match up very well (and IMO RULE in the wooden coaster and flat ride departments). But that's a little off topic isnt it :)

Two trains is doubtful anytime soon unless crowds pick up, but Thunderbolt is running full time now - it even ran further into a thunderstorm than Phantom did last week ;)

well, PittDesigner, that would make sense seeing as how Phantom is tall, steel, and new.
Well yea but they ran it stupidly into the storm - like there was lightning everywhere and the trains were still going ...

When I was a kid growing up in New York (actually about an hr. north of the city) I saw commericals for BGW. That's about a 12 hr. drive. Maybe they were looking for people to fly in and stay, but that's still a LONG way away. I never really thought of BGW as a tourist destination (like a Disney or Universal).

-----------------
A rollercoaster? What's that?

But there are many people who would go to the BGW are for the "Colonial Williamsburg" area. It is actually a HUGE tourist trap (I mean destination :)). The entire town i lined with Bed and Breakfast places.

But the only time I ever heard about people without family in the area WANTING to go from B-more to Pittsburgh is when the Ravens and Steelers met in the playoffs!

PR ran two trains yesterday(7/10) and the day before that. So long as the 1st level swells to about capcity, PR runs two trains, just like all the others.

Coasterman Mike - shouldn't I be working or something... oh thats right, I finally got a day off

i have never seen a commercial for kennywood and ive been within 30 minutes of the park!

Pitt Fall is an okay drop ride, but Acrophobia beats it with a meat cleaver. And PR is a little too short, but Thunderbolt is awesome!

Since Jeff made Track Record a "perk" for CB members i'll just post my count here: Coasters:99 Parks:14

How tall is PittFall 200 feet?

I believe PittFall is around 250 feet.

Jeff said:... I mean, DC to Shi.. I mean, Pittsburgh is no small trek... Cleveland I could see, but DC? How odd.

Of course we could advertise in Cleveland, but then we'd run the risk of people from Cleveland actually coming here, which of course would make the rest of us leave... although I did enjoy that "circus" you people have in the flats. ;)

And I assume that "shi..." was to be followed by "...ning mecca of all that is good," right?

To add to some other points:

Coasterman Mike, I wouldn't say that KP has higher attendance than WoA... a dissapointing day at GL is still a busy day for KP. Their attendance is WAY off, and KP's is only a BIT off. They are probably still drawing more, though.

PittDesigner: 2 trains are run almost all of the day, almost every day. Unless it's a total rain-out or there is less than a 15 minute line with one train, there's always the second one on.

Lori, it's actually 251feet, but I'll let you slide.
