Kennywood - May 23rd (Revenge!!!!)

Associated parks:
None

Ok, we got to the park at 11 am. It was reaaallly crowded by the metal detectors, becasue not all of them were working. Oh well, I lived. When we got there I hit all of the minor rides, like Magic Carpet and Grand Prix.

Then we got in line for the Phantom. Oh man, what a great ride! The wait was about 45 minutes, which really wasn't all that bad, because I went the day before too and waited an hour and a half. Almost the entire que is on a bridge that goes over Lost Kennywood and the mini golf course. They only have one train running right now so once you got into the station it still took a while, but I didn't notice the train barreling into the station like everybody said. I am sure they could make the brakes there a little stronger. I sat in the first row of the last car. The lift hill takes about a minute to get up, which is almost half of the ride! The first hill is decent, but after that the ride rocks! The famous second drop through the Thunderbolt is better than ever, and it will be even better when the Thunderbolt is actually running again. The overbanked turn is cool, but it isn't quite as steep as the ones on Millenium Force. The trench coming back up through the Thunderbolt is cool too, I hope they don't make it fully enclosed. The bunny hops near the station are just maybe the best part of the ride. The airtime you get on them is soooooo sweet! Right before the final turnaround you get a real sudden drop that give you incredible airtime! That was it for the ride. My number 2 coaster of all time behind MF.

Next we hit Aero 360 which is really sweet, Jackrabbit, and the Logjammer. The Pitfall was pretty cool, I did the little nickel freefall trick, it was pretty neat too! The was the end of the day. A great day at KW, I can't wait to go back!

Revenge will soon be mine on the Phantom!
You're definitely not the first person I've heard mention this coaster's their favorite or next-to-favorite coaster. It really sounds like Kennywood's got a winner!

A one train operation on this ride must be a nightmare. None the less, from the POV I saw, it definitely looks like a kick butt coaster.

Actually, I haven't heard of a wait longer than 1-1/2 hours, save for the first day it opened (unscheduled) due to the fact that everyone in the park ran to it when they heard the news that it was actually running.

The final variable will be the trims. Where they're added and how strong they are will either change the ride significantly or not at all. Judging from all the reports of the awesome speed and airtime, I'm obviously pulling for the latter.

Until trims are added, they're going to stay at one train operation. Supposedly, the trims will be added within the next week, although the first time I heard that was early this week. Who knows.

I find it pleasing that the part of the Steel Phantom that was people's favorite is now the part of the Phantom's Revenge that is the ho-hum part. I think that shows what a winner we've got on our hands.

Oh, and as for you Lynch, we're not going to come pick you up. Get out here and ride this thing!

Could you describe the ruckus? *** This post was edited by kpjb on 5/25/2001. ***
Two problems: Finding the finances and finding a ride. I'll probably rectify said problems this weekend or next and end up at Kennywood.

I can't believe that this thing has been open a week, and I haven't been on it! I hope I get on this thing before they add the trims!
Yeah, it is really cool. I will have to go back and ride it after the trims are added and see what it is like then!

I've heard that trims may not ever be added and that the reason train #2 isn't running is that it's still being constructed (notice that it isn't on the transfer track)

Something Funny And Witty Goes Here
Actually, both trains ARE on the tracks now, and have been since last weekend. They've even swapped trains, so both ARE complete.

As far as I know they have not started two train operation yet, which would indicate that they DO want/need to add trims before doing so.
