Keiko Dies.

It was a Zoo Officer. Brookfield Zoo has their own police force. He had contacted both his superiors and Zoo vets as to what should be done and unfortunately, they agreed the wolf should be "put down". Here is the Zoo's press release.

But again, I say they should have removed her from the gene pool. *** Edited 12/18/2003 1:55:26 PM UTC by redman822***

I don't know, man... they got to aquire more powerful tranquilizers. I've seen some darts where they can put down a full sized bear within a couple minutes, if that...

...I guess I just got too much of a care for wolves, since they are one of the coolest creatures on this God's green Earth... but especially if that is the only wolf in their exhibit, they should have either fired a warning shot (as Agent Johnson said), brought in a fresh steak or some dog biscuits, or fired a round of tranquilizers!

...for me, personally... I would have let that wolf have his dinner. A human arm, I've heard, tastes pretty much like chicken... so the wolf would have been happy with a arm & the woman would still not have had a case against her ;).

That's the problem, though. Those strong drugs put the bear down fast, but there's a fine line between knocking the bear out and killing it. And with animals like polar bears, there's very little warning as to when they'll come out -- they growl even when they're out. (So do some housecats, as it turns out!)

I am a sad one over this. I like whales and animals. Can any one tell me if this is the sam whale that ate the guy who climbed the wal at Sea World.

I think you are referring to the incident at SeaWorld in Cleveland, where a man was found dead after trying to swim with the whales--he was not eaten. Keiko was never with SeaWorld, if he was he never would have been set free. SeaWorld was very much against the attempts to return Keiko to the wild.

I still do not agree with the statement. I am betting that the wolf would have loosened his grip with a warning shot. We are not talking about having the wolf go to his house and watch tv, we are talking about him opening his jaws enough to allow the lady (who needs hit with the nearest 2x4 with a rusty nail in it) to yank her arm back through the bars.

Was this lady every brought up on charges? Was she banned from the zoo for life? Where is follow up from the zoo?

As far as I know...nothing...no charges, no ban, nada.

Also, AFAIK, her name was never released either.
