Just confirmed...Whizzer is history...

After all these posts about Whizzer closing, I figured I would try and call SFGAm and see what they would say.

ALAS, it is true... :( The lady on the phone confirmed that the Whizzer is indeed closing and its last day is Sunday, August 11.

Anyone from the Chicago area want to meet up and head to GAm on that day, email me...

Goodbye Whizzer, dear friend. You set me rolling many years ago into this fun hobby...

Ugh!

Oh well, I guess we all knew it was coming sooner or later.

So...does anyone have any inside info on whether the ride will go to coaster heaven or see new life at another park? No speculation, please.

It'll be "confirmed" when I hear it from the park.

Sorry Jeff. I normally wouldnt open something that you closed but redman is correct. If you call (847)249-1776 , its the recording for the park and the first thing it states is that the Whizzer will close on August 11th. Whoever wants to get the proof, just call the number above.

Thanks and I hope everyone can get to the park before August 11th for one last ride.

...

Never thought I'd see the day when a post gets unclosed. Thats more shocking then the fact that Whizzer is closing.

Can you say Superman Ultimate Flight? I can and it is an awesome awesome ride. Rode it on its inaguaral day at SFOG.

All I need is 4.5 million bucks and a half a mile long sliver of land and maybe someone could build me my very own Shivering Timbers. ;)

That means that this will be the second year in a row where a Schwarzkopf classic was removed to make way for a B&M Flyer. Its too bad that other, less-than-stellar coasters aren't being removed instead.
nooooo, im so sad now.... :(

Just as I had heard several weeks ago...

Too bad. Whizzer was my very first steel coaster, a terrific piece of coaster history about to leave us, again.

What a waste.... I hope to god it's not a flying coaster.
