A new attraction to draw visitors to San Diego's SeaWorld opens Memorial Day weekend, and even though the ride has been in the works for several years, it remains a sore point with some San Diegans. A vocal councilwoman says the park lied about the appearance of the ride.

Most in the San Diego area forget that they are transplanted from the rustbelt, either from Buffalo, Pittsburgh, Detroit, Chicago, etc. San Diego benefits from everything, including the Mexicans heading to LA at 3am, they have a great new Convention Center, and the state's budget issues will not effect any day to day services there.
Of course, if Sea World packed up and left, that Donna Frye broad would just be happy with that poor excuse Belmont Park with wanna be gangsters wearing handkerchiefs over their head sitting in the parking lot eating ice cream.
Besides, we already have purely educational facilities. There called schools. have some fun.
However, as far as traffic goes, you're completely nuts if you think the local roadways can handle it. My family went to Sea World about a year ago, and the traffic was nightmarish, at best. The road leading to Sea World (whose name eludes me at the moment) was completely jammed. Sending more traffic it there could potentially back up to I-5 or I-8, at which point, I can guarantee the local residents would REALLY be opposed to coasters at the park.
Again, I actually would LOVE to see a few coasters there, when I go to see my family, the only option I really have is the Giant Dipper at Belmont. I just figured, as a San Diego native, and having lived there for a good 4/5 of my life, I would try to give the opposing point of view, or at least shed some light on it.
Isn't Mrs. Frye the wife of Skip Frye, the guy who started the Surfrider Foundation? If so, her position on these issues shouldn't be a surprise at all, and for all her posturing against Sea World on this, I think she's actually been a very important voice on the SD City Council.
Oh, and about Golden Hills, it's not exactly an upscale neighborhood, but it's actually becoming one. A friend of mine bought a HUGE house out there and has fixed it up enough that it was featured on a historic homes show on Ch. 15 out there. Yes, I know 15 is crap upon crap, but nonetheless, one must assume the home has become pretty impressive. There are many people discovering that there are amazing homes in the area, and it's making a huge comeback, kinda like how the Gaslamp used to be a nightmare. If I could afford it, I might buy there too :)
I don't know much about her record, but if she's doing anything to cut down on all the sewage spills that we've been plagued with, then more power to her.
It just seems that this is her way of getting attention, since it's a bit late to do anything about the ride. And I'm sure she was fully aware of the designs for a long time now.
Yah, I'll probably be priced out of Golden Hill soon too. Dang housing prices! Perhaps we should be more anti-business so that there'd be fewer jobs and fewer people and cheaper houses. ;)

I would also be willing to bet Donna Frye is at least doing something about the sewage spills. When I lived down there, I voted for her. But yes, I'm sure this has something to do with getting attention, especially for upcoming votes.
And as far as housing prices go, tell me about it. I moved from San Diego to LA a few years ago, and it's even worse up here. I make what in most part of the country would be considered pretty good money, but I have no idea how I'll even be able to afford a down payment on a condo, much less a house. Maybe someday....
