Joker's Jinx Question

I was just wondering...

Joker's Jinx at SFA is loud. Really loud. As in, you can hjear it from the parking lot as you walk up to the park entrance and the ride is in the back of the park loud.

My question is this: Are all the Premier LIM coasters this loud? The only other one that I havge ridden is Flight of Fear at PKD, which I don't remember as being particularly loud. I would think that if it were as loud as Joker's Jinx that there would be the possibility of hearing damage from riding it. Granted I rode it before the OTSR's had been replaced with lapbars, so I might have had the memories of loud head-banged out of me...

I want to live where it's all the same. I want to live where it's all just like today. I want to live where it's always Saturday.
Only when it launches it's loud. I never really noticed how loud they are while riding though. It's alot different riding than standing next to it.

I think it's more of a constant sound for a long length of time (like a concert or working with heavy machinery) that will damage your hearing rather than a quick 2-3 second burst like JJ gives. Although an explosion or a shot from a rifle will make your ears ring.

I have ridden JJ with lapbars and I didn't remember it being so loud. And boy is it LOUD on the ground. I think its because you are going faster and you don't pick up sound as easily because are somewhat catching up to the speed of sound. (Yes I know the speed of sound it A LOT faster than JJ, but you get my point)
Well, it's like B&M's, the sound comes from the slight vibrations of the hollow track. If you've ever stood close enough to a B&M coaster, you'de realize that they are just as loud.

If you can't stand the heights, get out of the line.

As to the volume on the coaster versus next to the coaster, maybe there is a resonance thing of some sort happening. And yes, you can damage your ears in a short time if the noise is loud enough. I don't remember the exact durations, but when I was in school to become a recording engineer, we got the whole spiel. I guess my question is are the other Mad Cobra models as loud?

Yes. When I went to SFGAdv., the line for Medusa was HUGE. As the train goes over the twist over the queue, you need to plug your ears because it is so loud.

For some reason JJ sounds much louder ever since the new trains were added in 02...in 99 through 01 the ride was never loud enough to be heard all the way from the parking lot.

It does sound like a B&M though...too bad it doesn't ride like one & of coursse those spoilsports next door to the park always demand that it be closed for frightfest.

To remedy that problem I say they should enclose it ala FOF @ PKD,if not then just replace it with a ride that can legally operate through frightfest.

Joker's Jinx is so loud, you can hear it in Human Resources, with the door closed, and that's at the back of the employee parking lot near the parking booths. I hear you can hear it at Bowie Town Center (I'm not sure exactly where that is). The Chiller at Great Adventure is equally as loud, but then again, so is Medusa. I laughed at my friend as she tried to make a cell-phone call under the zero-G roll. I know at one of the Paramount parks, they were wearing earplugs on one of the
FoF's.

Um, How bout NO! Whine Whine Whine, Why can't we just deal with it not being open one little month during the year? Its a decent ride(i rode with the OTSR, can only imagine without, as long as its like FoF without, it must be good). If you lived near an amusment park with loud coasters, you wouldn't want to be woken up when you're trying to sleep for work the next day either.

People didn't just move next to SFA, SFA popped up over the years next to where people lived, and as a day sleeper(as of late), I agree that it should be closed during that time of year, if its that loud.

Same bodies, but obviously the restraints were redone.

At GAdv. you can hear Nitro, Chiller and B:TR from the parking lot, but Chiller is probably the loudest. If you're exiting when Robin launches, definitely cover your ears.

Hobbes: "What's the point of attaching a number to everything you do?"
Calvin: "If your numbers go up, it means you're having more fun."

I never said the restraints weren't re-done, but that certainly doesn't mean new trains. They're the same exact trains, but with new lapbars in place of the OTSR's.

Chiller at SFGADv is usually one of the quietest coasters around. But every so often, it gets REALLY loud!

The Freezes and Poltergeist are loud too.

Do the LIM's have sand in them to make them quieter? I know B&M put sand in Talon. *** Edited 12/2/2003 8:28:22 PM UTC by SixFlagsAmericaFan***
Not that I know of.
It's not the LIM's that are too loud but it's the trains themselves that are way too loud.

Next time you're in the queue for blizzard river just wait until a train launches on JJ,once it goes up into the cobra roll you'll definitely hear how loud it is.

How is it that the trains make noise? You mean the train on track contact? So it's the track that is producing the noise.
JJ is loud throughout the entire course. I hate being right beside it when it goes through the spaghetti maze.

Oh God yes, The Chiller is WAY louder than JJ. You need earplugs!
