Joining ACE?

I need your guys (and girls) advice. I'm considering joining ACE, yet the only holdback is I probably wouldn't be able to attend many (if any) of the conventions. Any advice?

Join CoasterBuzz Club instead. You'll pay less and help keep us on the air.

But does a coasterbuzz membership get it's members into coastermania?( I am not trying to be smart I am asking a question)

Jeff, quick question, are any CoasterBuzzCons going to be heading to the southeast?

Yes, CoasterBuzz Club members get into CoasterMania, Timbers Fest, Stark Raven Mad, Winter Solace, etc.

CoasterBuzzCon just ended 12 hours ago... I don't know where it will be next year, but I can almost assure you there will be some kind of event at PKI again next year.

My ACE membership will get me their excellent magazine and their newsletter. It will get me discounts at Holiday World, Indiana Beach, and Kings Island. It will also get me into a couple of non-ACE coaster events that are limited to club members. Not bad for a year when I don't expect to attend any actual ACE events.
You don't need to be able to attend conventions to get your moneys worth out of an ACE membership. ACE holds regional events throughout the country during the year, if you check the web site you'll find a complete listing.

You also get the publications. ACE News IMHO isn't that useful for the internet connected enthusiast but the 4 colour issues of Roller Coaster are very nice and usually are chock full of nice pictures and excellent writing.

If you live in the midwest you can also use your ACE card to get discount admissions.
- @ PKI get in for $20
- @ Holiday World get in for $15 (I think...)
- @ IB through the end of the month buy 1 POP wrist band and get 1 free

Offers like this come and go but the PKI and HW ones seem to be here to stay.

Obviously if you're on a tight budget ACE is a little pricey but I've always felt that it's a good value and I've *never* been to a Coaster Con (though I *am* going on the ACE Euro Trip next month...)

Colin does a great job laying out a lot of the reasons to join Ace.

I also hesitated for a long time. I wasn't sure how many events I would attend, and I wasn't keen with hanging around with some of the "extreme geeks" that I associated with ACE.

But I can say that I am more than happy with my membership. The magazine and news letter are fantastic (if oft delayed a bit). The extra discounts at Paramount Parks and other places have more than paid for the membership on their own. And you will have a regional ACE representative that will likely keep you informed of other things going on that you'll never have an opportunity to do otherwise.

As an example, in So. Cal, all the discovery and travel channel tapings were relayed through ACE, and almost everyone you saw on those specials got there because they were ACE'rs notified by their representative of the tapings. I was also able to attend the media day b-roll tapings for X, getting in 15 rides in about 3 hours when the park wasn't even open, and seeing me in my red shirt occaisionally pop up on a commercial or other footage around.

So there is a lot more to ACE than just being able to attend the events.

Sometimes it's up. Sometimes it's down.
But with God, life is one thrill ride that you'll never regret being on.

Do what I did join ACE and Coasterbuzz that way I can do everything both groups do and support this site as well. Plus you get the added bonus of meeting lots of new people at all kinds of events and all the perks of membership to both groups.
Thanks for the advice guys, I think with my next paycheck, I will join both Coasterbuzz Club and ACE.

Did I break a rule?

WT, that would be my guess......but I didn't see them. A pleasant e-mail to the mods will likely answer your question...

I say join both if you can. I've been in ACE for a few years now, and will remain so. CBClub - well, let's just say somebody's gotta pay for all this bandwidth I keep using...;)
