I used to think it would awesome to work at a park. I mean, you get to deal with the rides all day, ride them whenever you want, get into the park for free, and spend everyday of your summer in the park!
Well, I can honestly tell you that it is not all that cracked up to be. Here in NJ we had a water park called "Action Park" which has been bought out and is now called (I say now, it actually happened a while ago now) "Mountain Creek". I thought it would be peaches to work there, but it was anything but.
Let me tell you, it was horrific. Yeah, you get into the park for free but after about a week of working there I no longer wanted to spend my free time there. I didn't get to go on the rides whenever I wanted cause they had me working crazy long hours. I had to deal with the awfull summer heat, in the blazing sun, while wearing a standard uniform (usually a t-shirt and khaki pants.....very hot and stylish...) and on top of that I had to deal with pissy people all day.
It really is not all that it's cracked up to be. It's much better going there and enjoying your day in the park instead of watching other people enjoying their day in the park.
I've noticed lately that I have a real problem with starting my sentances with, "When I worked at Cedar Point..." or, "When I worked at Universal Studios..." It can get annoying, even to myself. I am currently looking for a full-time non-seasonal job at a park here in PA.
I wanted to own a park when I was a kid, but as I grew up I realized for me it was just a pipe dream. Good luck to you.
