Yup...Jeff's correct. It's simply a reflection of us. But it also our place to holler when we see something we don't like.
Then again. Sensationalism has been around since, well, since monkeys started screaming and yelling whenever another pack of monkeys wandered into the area. (not to start a creationism debate) I think it's here to stay. It gets us excited. Hmmm....kinda like....rollercoasters?

Jim: yes, I know what happened with flt 5050, we did a case study on it in my aircraft accident investigation class. However, the turbine was never supposed to leave the engine cowl. Even if the blades failed, they were supposed to be contained within the cowl. Obviously, that didnt happen. Though none of this has anything to do with the point I was making about the "frenzy" that enshrouds uncommon accidents.
