After nearly a year of protests and outcry from residents and environmentalists, the Jackson planning board on Tuesday night gave Six Flags Great Adventure and KDC Solar LLC its blessing to clear-cut nearly 15,000 trees on an undeveloped piece of park property, where a 21-megawatt solar farm is to be built.

Finally. They did the right thing, because honestly I imagine they would get sued and lose in the long run. It's hard to really block lawful development.
The opposition really made it sound like it was a hundred-year-old forest, but from the photos, it looks extremely young. I assume that part of the agreement is still that they would plant trees elsewhere, and we've done the math in terms of carbon emitted for fossil fuel generated power versus carbon absorbed by the trees. It wasn't even close.
