Is your DDREX fully unlocked?

For those of you playing Extreme in the arcades, does the machine you play on have the hidden songs unlocked?

The one I play on has NO hidden songs unlocked. You can play Paranoia Survivor and Trip Machine Survivor only on your last song, and you cannot play at all Legend of Max, Heaven is a '57 Gray Metallic, Dance Dance Revolution or any other hidden songs there might be.

I've only seen Legend of Max once, as an extra stage. How do these songs get unlocked? Does someone have to beat the extra stage, or can they be unlocked with a code (which I'm sure I could convince the arcade operator to enter...)?

Lemme explain the unlocking songs part...thingy. ;)

To unlock the songs, yeah, you have to have an operator or a machne mechanic do it for you (or someone who has keys to the machine). The instructions and all the details are on ddrfreak.com

Now as far as my machine, no it's not unlocked not all the way i mean. I think the last code put in to the machine was #4 and to my knowledge there are 8 codes (i could be wrong here though, so don't really take my word for it)

Good Luck ^^

Yeah, but it has always been my understanding that the code unlocks are intended to bypass the normal playing unlocks. To suggest otherwise is as logical as selling a car where you could only turn on the air conditioning with a code.

Actually, Jeff, I don't think that's true with an 8th mix. If the player unlocks the song by beating some other maniac, then for example, Trip Machine Survivor would stay unlocked on my machine. Now if the song would stay unlocked after you beat the unlocked song, then again...Trip Machine Survivor should stay unlocked...since i've done it plenty of times. But it doesn't. Maybe on the older mixes that's true, but it hasn't happened to me on 8th.

Extreme is the only mix where unlocks are done strictly via codes. No point system or time release is implemented.

No Extreme machine is fully unlocked.

Because all the codes are not out.

End.

So what idiot came up with that scheme? "We'll sell you an upgrade kit for $2,000, but you can't use it all."

Lame.

It's called keeping people interested.

Economics.

And an upgrade to Ex costs about 2-4 hundred dollars.

No, stupid, it's selling an incomplete product. WTF does economics have to do with it? Konami already has your money.

And a used upgrade kit might be had for $500, but check your facts, son, they're a lot more new.

I dunno, I can see how it might be good for keeping interest in the machine high. I know that I check every time I play to see if Legend of Max is unlocked yet. There might be people who come to check every day. And when new songs or Oni courses are unlocked, it's going to result in a crowded machine for a while.

You're missing my point... there is stuff locked in home video games I buy too, and that's fine. I don't expect to play the last level of Tomb Raider just after I get the shrink wrap off.

But the point is I can still play that stuff once I've done the work. In this case, you buy something that you can't fully use unless Konami decides to give you the code for it. Imagine if I couldn't use the ice maker in my fridge until GE felt like telling me how to turn it on. That'd be stupid.

Oh, I see... so what Konami should do is give all the codes to the operator upon purchase and let them decide when to input them. That would make more sense.

You know...

You could play it if ya just AA'ed a maniac song last stage

...

=D

Yeah, but then you have to play it heavy 1.5x reverse. There's no way I could come close to beating it on heavy, let alone with the modifiers.

Yeah Im all for unlocking it straight out of the box.

Where I live, noone will ever play yet alone complete oni courses or maniac/heavy level songs so a code unlock makes perfect sense at our arcade.

Some good ones to try to AA are Sobakasu Freckles and Cowgirl. They have pretty predictable beats and easy steps to Perfect Attack. :)

To get an AA is way harder in the arcade. Last time I counted I had AA'ed 22 of the Heavy songs on the PS2 version, but I've AA'ed only three songs in the arcade, only one heavy song (AM-3P).

In that case, Den, you should play AM-3P to get LOM. I for one haven't AA'd a song yet, but i was very close to doing so. The song was Holic. But right now, don't care much for AAing a song, since LOM and other songs should be unlocked via code from konami any day now.

Yeah, but I don't *want* to play LoM on heavy! I'd be lucky to get 10 seconds into it. I want to play it on light.

I'm not sure the operators at my arcade have entered any codes at all. I noticed that Heaven is a '57 Metallic Gray or whatever it's called is playable now, but you still can play Paranoia Survivor only on your last song.
