Is this really Six Flags?

As we all know Six Flags likes to use other parks rides to advertise. However for those that have seen the new SFGAm commercial you know that about 90% is actual Six Flags Great America rides! I was very surprised to see this from Six Flags.

Yeah, SFMW's commercial shows our medusa. I was surprised too.

Who else but enthusiasts would even know? Its called "Saving Advertising Dollars" and its not a new practice. Why spend money to film two similar coasters [say, for example, Medusa West and Medusa East] when its virtually impossible for the "GP" to tell the difference? Its a coaster, it loops, its fun, end of story. Parks do this in their park maps, too, and its NOT just something Six Flags does.

SF uses whatever footage they have to convey a general message to the public: we have rides, they are fun, come and visit. if SF can do this using the park's atual rides, fine. if they want to use other's rides, fine. it doesn't really matter and I don't see why people get their panties in a twist over SF's advertising campaigns. I do find it funny when I see a ride that a park doesn't actually have, but its nothing to get upset about.

note: I'm not saying you're getting your panties in a twist, but usually somebody does in this sort of thread.

All of SFEG's new commercial is filmed at SFEG. It looks like they actually payed for a helicopter to fly over the park or something, they show a awsome shot following Twister II to the crest of the lift hill, they show the Tower of Doom plunge, and they show a overhead shot of the intire park. It is actually well done.

SFDL's commercials say all this stuff about S:ROS but people think it has loops because they show Viper (at sfmm not sfdl) instead.

i don't feel like putting anything here

The cover of the 2002 SFOG Brochure features a photo of X-Flight, with the colors changed to red and blue, instead of actually showing SUF.... Just thought I'd throw that out there :) It's true though, no one but us knows the difference.

I'd Rather Be Riding Roller Coasters

RDucky- I was there when that god awful helicopter was flying around getting those shots. They were running us around trying to get all of the rides running at once, which is almost impossible. And that thing would get so close to the rides it was unnerving to watch sometimes. At one time they wanted the Big Wheel running constantly for five minutes. If you look at Chaos, it wasn't running because it was closed by corporate. Disaster Canyon was closed that day too, that is why the commercial shows a different rapids ride.

Can you believe Six Flags sent that phony picture to the press as well? A lot of the newer commercial are featuring actual overhead shots of there own parks for 2001 and 2002, before that I think hey got to many complaints. There was a whole bus load of 4th and 5th graders that got mad at the entrance because Superman:Ride of Steel didn't have loops like in the commercial. The kids were all whining at the ticket booth, they probably enjoyed Superman but didn't think it was as cool as going upside down 7 times.

I thought those were some pretty good shots, I love the shot of Twister II. It did look like they got pretty close to Tower of Doom.

Is it common for SF to pay for helicopters to come in to do commercials? that seems like a pretty big expense. Just wondering.

I just put the SFGAm Commercial on my site www.coasterworld.cjb.net today I submitted it as news.

My Top 5 Coasters:
1. Raging Bull(SFGAm) 2.Millenium Force(CP) 3. Deja Vu(SFGAm) 4.V2(SFGAm) 5.Cornball Express(IB)A HREF=http://coasterworld.cjb.netCOASTERWORLD/***

I just saw the new Six Flags America commercial, and they also did a good job. They still show X-Flight instead of Batwing (no big deal), but they finally show Superman Ride of Steel instead of Viper at SFMM, so I'll forgive them.

The word "definitely" is definitely the most misspelled word on the buzz.
Umm but I-fan, it's the S:ROS @ SFNE that they show! Yeah, it got me too. It wasnt until someone else (BatwingFan?) pointed it out here that I really looked at it and you can see the overbanked turns in the background. And the White coaster they show is not Wild One but rather the Georgia Cyclone (note the 2 bench PTC as opposed to WO's 3-benchers).

But it was good enough that I missed it the first 17 times I saw the ad ;)

Besides, if we were really shutting down people we disagreed with, would Jeremy (2Hostyl) still be around? :) I think not. - Jeff 1/24/02

Well at least they show a Ride of Steel with the right colors! I've only caught the commercial once, so I'll have to see it again.

I really thought the Great America commercial was well done. They used a different Deja Vu but that is quite understandable since they didnt get theirs running until October. They slipped in a kiddie coaster from a different park, I think it was the one at SFStl with the STStl logo edited out. I love the aerial shots of Raging Bull going down the main hill and the music is absolutely awesome. It got me so pumped for Great America to open up.

Yes. A very well done commercial. The fly by shots of Raging Bull, Eagle, and Viper were great. I like the intro with Bull descending the hill and a big screen statement of "Here is your wake up call".

"The Peoples Elbow" or "The Spinaroonie?. Cant decide which is the most electrifying move in sports entertainment!!! LOL

SFDL uses helicopter footage of Viper from the early 90's I love seeing it in it's former all black glory.
I gotta chime in as well -- that SFGAm commercial was incredible! I am glad Six Flags, Inc is doing all these aerial shots, they look spectacular.
