Is there a real coaster called the Death Trap?

A friend of mine said that he recalled a TV programme about 10-15 years ago in the UK that showed a coaster, he thinks it was in Australia, called "Death Trap".

It was a steel one, and went out over some water at some point. The idea of it was to look really dangerous (without actually being dangerous) - for example, the cars were designed to shake a little, and the paint was deliberately made to look as if it were peeling off.

I can't find any reference to this ride on rcdb.com - does anyone know whether it was real? Perhaps it was under construction and was never finished?

RCDB, while not 100% complete, does have defunct, unfinished coasters as well as those under construction or in storage. I have a feeling what your friend saw was a fictional story.

edit - if it was a news story on a real coaster, perhaps it was described as a "death trap."

The coaster is probably the "Orphan Rocker".

Most attributes, except the name fit your description.

Thanks - that certainly looks like a pretty good match, and the fact that it's been under construction for so long fits too. I'll send the link to my friend and see if he recognises the pictures!
