This year we have visited Kings Island and Holiday World, but instead of going to Cedar Point (which we have done almost every year since 2001), we thought about going south for these other 2 parks instead. We understand that Cedar Point is a better park, but would we really feel disappointed if we went to Six Flags Over GA and/or Dollywood instead for just this year?
Dollywood is a wonderful park with great rides, and a lot of charm and atmosphere. Six Flags over Georgia is also a very nice park, and it's home to Goliath, one of the best B&M hypers out there.
If I were located where you are, it wouldn't be a difficult choice. I'd choose Dollywood/SFOG.
You won't be disappointed.
We also included Dollywood in the same trip and IMO it's another must-see. Once again, another beautiful park (in a natural setting), great food, entertainment and top class rides. Plus it's all about Dolly and ain't nothin wrong with that. You have to put up with Pigeon Forge, but it's worth it.
Since they are both major regional parks and big draws you should avoid these places on the busiest of days, like Saturday. A weekday visit this time of year is your best bet for maximum enjoyment.
Another place we caught up with on that trip was Biltmore in Ashville N.C. (America's largest home) It's not far from Dollywood and very do-able as a third day kind of thing. It's an amazing place, and can take you (surprisingly) most of the day. We thoroughly enjoyed every minute.
By all means go, and we'll see you at Cedar Point again next year!
Just my opinion though.
EDIT - Mark Small used the word "charm". Quick! GET 'EM! lol

SFOG is definitely worth a visit. It has a diverse collection of coasters, a relaxing dark ride, and a restored carousel that operated at Riverview in Chicago.
I still need to get out to Dollywood.
My favorite MJ tune: "Billie Jean" which I have been listening to alot now. RIP MJ.
SFOG is one of my favorite "big" parks. It's not a question of which is better; rather, variety is the spice of life. And besides, SFOG has Mindbender! :)
Long live the Big Bad Wolf
But oh so true. If I haven't yet visited your park, be patient, I'll get to ya. Because some of my favorite parks were ones that don't get the publicity of a CP or Disney or even DW...sadly, too many of them have closed their doors, and those parks only live on in our memories. So visit the small parks too.
If you end up going to DW/SFoG...visit Lake Winnie. You'll be glad you did. :)
You still have Zoidberg.... You ALL have Zoidberg! (V) (;,,;) (V)
Granted the lines weren't long when I was there, and come to think of it Superman wasn't even open yet, it opened a week later. Scorcher and Batman are great, Mindbender is a classic and the woodies are actually very good.
And Acrophobia is the best drop tower I've been on in terms of "oh sh*t" factor. *** Edited 7/31/2008 4:51:20 PM UTC by Willh51***
I think the mine train is great, but others might not think so. For Superman, most enthusiasts say that they enjoy the Pretzel loop, and the rest of the ride is junk (not me though). Goliah is an awesome airtime machine though.
I tie this park with Cedar Point, but yet at Cedar Point I think of Chaos, and the Tilt-A-Whirl as great rides, and SFOG in my opinion doesn't have any flat great rides.
SFOG I thought was a very nice park as well (minus employees and such). Last seat in Georgia Cyclone was the best ride of the day, Superman (last seat) was the biggest rush of the day (pretzel loop... can I just have a ride made up of 6 of those?), and Mindbender was the biggest surprise hit of the day.
It's a solid park with a good collection of rides and if you've never been it's well worth a visit.
Head south, CP is great, but don't over-kill it...
...and "better than" needs to be defined. From a thrill stand point, its not an argument, CP has that title (Anyone who argues otherwise is just a CP hater). Sure, Goliath, Superman & Thunderhead can muster up somewhat of an argument, until you mention TTD, Maverick, MF, Maggie, Raptor, etc.
As for the so called charm, you'll get more of that at DW, sure...but again, define "better than."
Regardless of the comparison, I think SFoG has a very good collection of thrill rides. Good variety and you can't go wrong with 4 different B&M's.
Hobbes: "What's the point of attaching a number to everything you do?"
Calvin: "If your numbers go up, it means you're having more fun."
